Oh well guess they needed it more than me and if they climb the fence and then ram the gate to get out my hats off to them. Guess they should of had some parenting.

This is actually a though provoking thread. I know I have a spare house key in the machine shed.... somewhere. Looks like it's time to hunt that up and maybe make a couple of spares to stash.

I doubt there’s too many here who haven’t done that at least once.

A double deadbolt takes care of getting locked out. And criminals hate them.

And believe me, a thief can spot a fake rock a mile away.

You never know how easy your house is to break into until you lock yourself out.

    I’ll trade.

Tipped a wheelbarrow of dirt over. Ripped up my leg and mashed my foot. Good scrapes and going to be a bruised foot. My own fault. Just rushing a bunch of stuff I need to get done before winter.

Then the furnace crapped out. Being repaired Thursday. I could get it sooner but at a much higher price. It will be cold this weekend but warmer next week so we are ok.

    Schlage keyless deadbolt.

I won’t recommend Kwikset anything to anyone, they use stamped construction which means very sloppy tolerances, leads to the highest incidence of cross key access problems. There is a reason why they cost less.

I keep a small ring of essential keys in my one pocket, always, so that I can’t get locked out anywhere. My shop is in an industrial setting, and I don’t have anywhere that I could trust to hide a key there. So 2 keys for there, 2 for my truck, 2 for home, on a medium split ring; always in my left front pocket.

The hide-a-key rocks are all cast from the same mold, I am always paranoid that someone would recognize those. Plus, do you already have that type of rock around your house? Or does that rock stand out? Maybe I am just paranoid?

Maybe stash a key in the fallen and can’t get up remote, and keep it around your neck. I’m obviously breaking balls. Could have happened to anyone, but really sucks! It could have been worse. Zombies could have been chasing you.

I'll bet there are some jotos in La Ocho getting traded for cigarettes that would swap places with you.

It is amazing how the universe sometimes conspires to give you a day from hell just to let you know who the boss is.

That feeling when you realize what you've done is really what the universe is after, everything else is incidental.

I once pulled the rocket scientist maneuver of pulling ahead in a parking spot right over one of those concrete blocks which promptly lodged on my undercarriage.

It was not my finest hour.

To be fair, everyone can spot the fake rock when it’s the only rock on the porch, right next to the front door.

Oh, and if they really can spot a fake rock among real rocks, there’s an easy solution. Buy about 50 of those fake rocks. They might get lucky and find the one with the key right away, but they’ll probably get pissed off and leave, first.

Nothing like locking your car key in the car twice in one week! $50 each time and the most embarrassing thing was that the second time, my passenger window was rolled down!!! Sigh....

Unless that hide-a-key rock is fairly similar to the rocks you have around your house, even Stevie Wonder will spot it right away.

But if you want to buy 50 of them, then that is up to you. Please do so at your local locksmith, mom & pop hardware store, or other local business. At least $450-$500, + tax.

Same here. The key is in a small water tight container that is buried in the ground.

Nobody would ever find it, unless I tell them where it is.

Yeah, I know, it was a joke.

A more serious answer would be to simply bury the fake rock under your real rocks. Or get a variety of different shaped/sized/colored real rocks to also add to your rock garden (Mother Nature doesn't charge if you pick them up yourself). Or alternatively, use a small, powerful magnet to hide the key somewhere else.

With 3 homes we have keys hidden everywhere. You think that sprinkler head is a sprinkler? Think again :)

I don’t have any hide a key rocks but I do have regular ones which will get you in your house pretty quick when you’re locked out. I had to smash a porch window one time to get in.
