So I went to go get gas after the debates....it's cold outside, so I threw on a sweater to go with my jeans. Step outside, close the door, take a few steps off my porch, then realize that I don't have my keys.

I grumble and go back up to the door.....locked.

    Mo-ther.....F-----------cker!!

The back door is dead-bolted and locked, and all of my windows are closed and locked as well, in part because it's 30 degrees outside. Thankfully, I had my phone with me. I look up a locksmith, and call the only 24 hour place available. Nice guy answers the phone. I explain my situation, and he tells me "it's $250 for the work."

    :alex:

So he texts me a couple of numbers to other locksmith to try my hand at a cheaper deal, but none answered. So I send him a text back telling him I can't find anyone, and that I'll just cough it up and pay. He agrees, and I send him my address.

He calls me some 7 or so minutes later. "Hey, ummm....my car won't start."

    :brickwall:

But he's got the number to a buddy of his who will do it for the same price. I go through the same process with him, and he tells me "I'll be out there in 45 minutes to an hour."

Hour and a half later, by now I'm a frozen ball on my porch, a nice Mercedes cargo van shows up (gee....wonder where that money goes into....), and three of the nicest guys in the world get out. I spoke with one about the house while the locksmith did his thing. 5 to 7 minutes worth of work, and $268 later (a $18 fee for Visa transactions), and I'm back in my house.

That was the most expensive 6 minutes I've ever spent.

I pay my dues, thank them, and they go on their way.

So I grab my Jetline lighter and my cigarillos, light one up, then get in the car and race up to Chevron. By this point, I'm cold, tired, and pretty cranky. But hey, at least I get gas. The internet said the Chevron closes at 11 PM.

    Right?

    WRONG!

Chevron is closed (closed at 10)....,but at least I can pump my own gas. Right?

    WRONG.

I park, get out, open my tank, do the Visa, enter in my phone number for 40-cents off per gallon in Safeway rewards points.....

And the pump gives me 3 cents worth of gas. Then stops. No gas.

Empty tanks? Unlikely. COVID BS, with shorter hours? Likely. They don't let you pump your own gas after hours because it's Oregon law? Probably.

And my 40-cents off a gallon rewards points are now gone.

Yelling a nice string of curse words, I replace the nozzle and try another pump. That one won't even give me a drop.

I was so ****ing pissed. I haven't been this angry in a loooong time. What a ****ty night. I almost kicked a hole in my wall when I came home. Now my foot hurts too.

    Sigh.

I'm gonna go down there when they open at 7 AM and see what the deal is.

I'm also going to the hardware store tomorrow and getting two replacement keys....one for the management office, and one that I'll put in a magnetic keybox on my porch somewhere. That's a lesson I'm only paying for once.

Hope your night is going better than mine. F- this night.

Doesn't sound like you are in the hospital so are doing good. You could be doing MUCH worse.

Have not had a good night since my mother in law died after a year of fighting a brain tumor and my wife got fired as a result of covid and her acute depression.

That's awesome! Got a link for that?

Amen to that. And I've got 10 of the damn things on one ring. Including 4 keys for two sheds.

4 keys for two sheds.....one key to the house. Of course.

I'm very sorry to hear that. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

I feel your pain! At least you have a job (I used to, courtesy of ChiCom flu). But as others have said here, your alive, not in the hospital and not frozen ( by now).
A crappy evening for you, but it could have been worse.

    That night sucks hind titty.

On the other hand I'm at the gym trying to do 165lb squats after 5 days of rest. Weights seem heavier than expected. One more set.

I'm guessing a widow pane replacement would have been cheaper than a locksmith. Entry would have been quicker, as well.

I would be lying if I said I didn't briefly consider breaking the small window in my kitchen area. But I have nothing to patch it up with, maybe with the exception of taped carboard.

Yep. I do lock the house but I literally never lock my car. In fact it’s sitting in my work’s parking lot with the keys in the cup holder.

I should add, I don't know if that's exactly what I bought, but I'm sure it's similar enough that I'd still buy it.

I have combination locks with both push button user-programmable codes and physical key. I'm not yet willing to go with the wifi or bluetooth versions.

Like my poker buddies used to tell me,

Send me a check for a $100 and punch yourself in the balls.

    It's cheaper and less painful.

That sucks even more than when I locked mine in my tuck my first day at a new job. Talk about looking like a moron on day 1. At least it was daytime, and I have AAA so I didn't have to pay.
