Check this out, straight from the AUSA expo, the AAC "Honey Badger" PDW in .300 AAC BLK.

Its got a suppressed 6" barrel and a retractable stock. Its designed to be a quieter, more powerful and more versatile alternative to the MP5SD. Its meant to be used with subsonic 220gr ammo, but can also shoot the more powerful supersonic ammo. The 6" barrel might seem very short but remember the .300 AAC BLK really doesn't need a long barrel. Thanks to Ten Pound Monkey for the photography work

Do want!

A subsonic 220 grain, like a 45 ACP?
No, its .300 AAC BLK (7.62x35mm), a cartridge designed by AAC specifially to be suppressed. Its been around for a little while now and is really starting to gain popularity as more manufacturers jump on board with it. Its a great round, out of a 9" barrel using its supersonic loading it produces nearly 40% more energy than a 16" barreled 5.56mm rifle. It also uses standard AR mags and can use the mag to its full capacity, ie 30 rounds.

Here it is being fired into ballistic gel

Both of those 300 rounds chamber in the same rifle? The big difference in leade doesn't look too conducive to accuracy.
Yup

Accuracy is actually pretty good with most loads, especially considering you're usually shooting with a 9" or less barrel. Banging 8" steel plates at 200+ yards isn't hard with pretty much any ammo. More than accurate enough for PDW purposes.

Its actually capable of excellent accuracy. This is a 15 shot group at 190 yards using a 16" barrel, cut down .223 brass and 155gr Scenars (I was not the shooter)

That same barrel would chamber the much longer subsonic rounds?

Remington 700's are known for their generous freebore and tend to be purty akrit.

A subsonic 220 grain round sure does sound like a .45 auto though... might have 150 feet per second or so to play with. If it's close (1,050fps or so) barrel length will be a big factor to its sub-sonicness...

It might sound like it, and in terms of muzzle energy they are similar, but the penetration ability of the .300 is far far better. Its effective at far greater range too, I know hogs and deer have been taken with it at 150+ yards, due to the much higher BC it retains nearly all its energy at that range. Plus you have the option of switching over to supersonic and getting 1300+ fpe at any time

Also, I've never seen a suppressed .45acp you could compare to an airsoft gun
