Great job on the homeowner's part.

Always understand that the police has no legal responsibility to protect YOU, so don't count on them to. Keep that in mind and everyone will be happier.

I guess simply calling 911 during a home invasion doesn't save lives.

    Who'd a thunk.....:whistling:

If someone was invading my home, I'd call 911 to inform them that a coroner is needed.

Great article. But did anyone happen to read the comments made by "contortionist" at the end of the full article. I'm flipping outraged by that. I hope someone breaks into his house, robs him blind, and see what he thinks of home invaders then. What a complete idiot and an example of the ignorance and stupidity of anti's. I pray that the poster was using extreme sarcasm and didn't really feel that way.

And again kudos to the home owner for taking care of business

There was an episode of Panic 911 on TV. The dispatcher actually told the caller to put the gun down in the middle of a home invasion and the caller did it. Police showed up 10 minutes later when the lady was getting the crap beat out if her.

Yeah after reading it a few times it has to be sarcasm. No one can be that pig headed. But again, there are some nut cases out there. Sounds like something Feinstein would think up

Agreed. Stupid should hurt, so they can learn from it. If it's fatal, maybe other people can learn from it.

It would be interesting to sue the police dispatcher for that one. The police aren't liable for not preventing a crime, but when they tell somebody to do something that gets someone hurt, without a legal basis, they can be liable.

    I liked this comment:

A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.

They are not allowed to encourage anything other than stay in a safe place and wait for police. The dispatcher would have been fired instantly if she had said "Run on in there and shoot em' then!"

I personally think they should say "Police are on the way, but if you feel your life is threatened, you have every right to protect it" and leave it at that. But, I'm not a lawyer.

Well, that would be stupid. They record those calls. So, you just said, "Hello, yes, I am going to commit a premeditated murder. Please come and collect the evidence. Thank you."

Better call. "Someone broke into my home. I feel threatened. I have (whatever firearm with me). I can be identified by (your phyiscal description and what you are wearing). Please send help."

If you end up shooting the intruder, it turns out better for you in example number two.

i think he knows that and was using sarcasm , besides anyone with half a brain will not be on the phone if someone is breaking in on you , i know i will call after the deed is done and whatever outcome .

around my neighborhood everyone knows that
the police do not have to protect you . we fend for ourselves which it has been that way since i was a kid and learned from my dad

On forums, everyone's a Uber bad-ass Pro-MMA fighter/LEO who's survived shootouts where multiple Cops didn't, when in real life the bravest thing they've done is scream in the ear of a small child... from behind. :uglylol:

I seem to recall many folks claiming that in Zimmerman case the dispatcher suggesting a course of action to him is same thing as direct order by God.
