I have a Mossy 500, and keep the Tube full, and Chamber empty hammer down. It stays in the corner near me.
This was the way we kept the Shotgun in the patrol car.
I know that some people believe that you should keep a shotgun that way. Because a bad guy would piss his pants and leave when he heard you Rack the 12ga.
I'm not a believer in that. I do believe that he would if he could see a Full Size Rotty coming with the sound of Mossy Racking.
Other than that I just feel better without a round in chamber.

Any unholstered long gun has it's safety on, and most are also chamber empty, when they are not carried for immediate reactive self-defense.

If it has a safety I keep the safety on!
For HD shotgun I like the chamber empty, mag full.
    Just me.

Cruiser ready. Many shotguns are not drop safe and I don't feel the need to fiddle with safeties.

Ithaca 37, first 5 are 00, reloads are all slugs for those BG's that can't take a hint.

Cruiser ready - safety off, chamber clear.
Very fast into action, never felt the need to compromise safety for speed on this.

I’ve always felt that especially with very limited capacity firearms like 1911’s and shotguns the whole Israeli/cruiser ready configuration is a bandaid for lack of confidence in the user.

One in the chamber, safety on is the way a duty gun should always be. No questions, no wondering.

I got a KSG with tubes loaded , safety on. Takes literally seconds to get it into a fight so don’t see the need of creating a hazard. Will probably stay that way unless I’m facing an imminent threat.

We use slings instead of holsters. Safety stays on until the sight are aligned on target and we are ready to shoot.

Nothing louder than the sound of a 12 ga shotgun racking from the other side of a door! I keep mine cruiser ready as well.

Trigger pulled on an empty chamber so the slide is unlocked and the safety is off. Ready to pump and shoot. I like being able to see it is safe from across the room. With a pump that has been used a bit you can see the slide is not locked from quite a distance when it is stored muzzle up. The slide drops enough due to gravity and you KNOW it is not cocked and that the slide is ready to operate and is not locked.
