What's a good holster for competing in the IPSC production class with a glock 34?
Comptac locking paddle. Its right out of the box and does not need any mods. Its also legal for IDPA.
Look into a Ky Tac
I have two, just ordered my third...for a G34 and G35
I like the Galico. Seems to have a pretty high sight channel which works with the tall Dawson front sights if/when you go to dawsons.
I like that BlackHawk CQC (close quarters concealment) . I have had it for about a month and used it for two club matches and it worked real well. It's a pretty fast holster.
I had a fobus. It's not bad, but it holds the gun so tight to my side, it makes it hard to get a grip on it when going for a draw.
I've read through the USPSA rule book. Am I correct in that for the production class the holster can hold the gun 50mm away from my side? Do either the Comp-Tac or Ky Tac hold the gun away from your body at all?
Yes for all USPSA classes the holster must be within 50mm. The comptac easily passes.
I use a sidearmor modular for uspsa production. adjustable and works very well. I have not used a comp tac. Looking at the new belt feed mag pouch though.
Matt do you know if the belt feed mag pouch is legal in production.
I am using a Ky-Tac Sooper Hooper. No complaints here.
Blade tech molded OWB. Very inexpensive and draws really nice for me. Just get some longer screws, loosen the holster up until you get the right combo of retention/speed you want, and loctite 'em down.
After trying out a few different holsters(Bladetech, Comp-tec, Safariland..etc), I finally settle on Ky-Tac's KT1 for my G17 in IPSC Production. It seems most "natural" for my draws. YMMV.
