Rant time...
Okay, so Cecil the lion is dead. The most famous lion in the world, loved, literally, by absolutely everyone in every country in the universe (except me, who had never heard of him, and none of my friends had ever heard of him, and from reading the news, most people in Zimbabwe had never heard of him...).
WHAT is with all these "hunters" saying things like "I'm a hunter, but only for food, and think trophy hunters are horrible, unethical trolls.." ??? Ok, so you are a "good" hunter? and anyone who doesn't hunt exactly like you is a "bad" hunter? What about bow hunters? Are they bad? Maybe they should be banned because using an arrow is unethical? Oh, and what about someone who hunts from a blind or a tree stand? Maybe all hunters should have to hike through the woods all the time? Maybe single shot rifles should be banned? You don't have the follow up shot you might need for an "ethical" kill... and what is with these horrible "black powder" idiots? What, do they think it's the 1700s? They should be banned.
"Trophy Hunters" ARE hunters, like it or not. Banning a legal form of hunting, which from what I've read does help certain wildlife populations, will lead inexorably to calls for banning ALL hunting. I'm tired of reading all these comments on articles from the "good" hunters disparaging "bad" hunters - just because they don't hunt like they do.
"Hunters" bad mouthing other hunters in public forums will not help anything! If rules and regulations need to be changed, then lets figure it out. But jeezus criminy, don't give the anti's more ammo!!
Reminds me of the gun debate, where you get the guys saying limited ammo shotguns and rifles are okay, but AR-type guns should be banned...
