Looking for a good quality and hopefully make into an SBR some day, and wondered which would be a better idea?
That’s a matter of personal preference and use.
I owned a HK USC in 45 ACP for years but honestly rarely shot it.,… Don’t get me wrong it was a soft shooter but the OEM configuration stock and 16” barrel is goofy. I sold it to a licensed Class 3 manufacturer who had it converted to a full auto in UMP configuration. The UMP styling is really worth having. If I was going to do it all over again and wanted a UMP I would just buy the Tommy Built UMP clone as a pistol and do the paperwork to convert it to an SBR. It is probably less expensive overall and at the end of it you will have something that works and looks great.

All that said, while it is super cool……. is there a purpose for this weapon? I ask because from a real world practicality standpoint you would probably be better served with a 556 rifle with a suppressor. Nothing wrong with an MPX style……. Just dont go too short or you will lose all of the benefits of the cartridge.

The Sig 556 is probably a better option. There are probably a few SBR 556’s out there. A few police supply places I went to used to have them. I got the 556 SWAT. No plans to SBR. I know a few places that had USC’s. The magazine capacity and sock were horrible. If they they came with a double stack magazine, traditional stock, and threaded muzzle, I would have bought one. But stock form I dislike, and the cost to convert is a bit and risky for quality.

Love the Sig 556 series and I missed a factory SBR years ago. Always regretted that. I enjoy mine (different later configuration) but parts are an issue now. Parts kits are practically unobtainable (luckily I have a few) and the factory rear diopter and Swiss style non adjustable stocks are also rare. I won’t part with mine as it’s always been a grail gun and I have the factory Swiss non adjustable stock and the factory diopter but I wouldn’t recommend anyone jump into one for the reasons above.
Not familiar enough with the USC but you can at least get the Tommy Built Tactical version and have some kind of support. I have been wanting a G36 but the $h!+ show is getting going so it’s on the back burner-if it ever happens.

Wow the parts are expensive for the 556 now. What parts did you get? I have so many random parts for weapons now, I don’t want to get too much more. But I do want to shoot my weapon and replace basic parts thru wear and tare.

2 factory parts kits came with mine when I got it. It also came with the adjustable stock. I quickly obtained a Swiss folder and swapped it out. But that was years ago just as they discontinued the Xi and started the MCX.
I think the kits is small springs, extractor, op spring and firing pin plus your typical small parts.
Don’t jump on an Xi. Parts aren’t there at all.
Sad it’s a great platform and you would have to have a good friend in Switzerland to get anything.
Since you see to like 80-90 sticks ever consider an AUG plus you skip the SBR BS

I also think the Sig 556 would be a better option, just few out there.
