What amazes me is that disconnect between original enlightened liberal American values of freedom etc and Academia/Society today
    Howard.

Then again, a Nobel for being half black... (or is it half white?) sums it up nicely. Dy-No-Mite

Surely was not based on accomplishments prior to...

Make him number one and it won't change a thing in the real world, but the ivory tower socialists would swoon in orgasmic agreement.

    Polls show...

Well, to be honest, IIRC, Polls indicated Hillary would be our POTUS, so maybe a grain of salt is a valuable asset needed when perusing polls... maybe a shaker full to have on hand.

For the slugs our society abounds in.

I know, I know, slugs [and snails] have their place in the ecosystem. Hail Snails! It's just the slime they leave behind is kinda... ick. (a little garlic, a little butter... uh, a funny name, sure, ok)

Suspend disbelief and all is well. (too much salt is bad for the blood pressure as is nuclear weapon proliferation I've been told)

and in his defense, he did get us out of Iraq with style grace and elan. or something. so he has THAT going for him. Uh, we ARE out of the middle east... right? muahahaha

something something Drones with hellfires... Drone King much? The Top, The MAN
(assumption on my part. mught not be hellfire)

    Polls show

    Blame Bush

We admit we don't get out much, and there may be many accomplishments that we missed. But with all due respects, other than run up several more trillion dollars in debt and improve his golf game, what exactly did Mr. Obama accomplish in his eight years?

    We trudge on (ignorant).

Would that be like college professors with degrees in history?

There have been a lot of mediocre presidents.

    Times make the man.

Obama is not the worst but middle of the pack. Just eyeballing Wikipedia (they are highlight a lot of polls) I would say 30 at best for Obama.

Foreign policy... got Bin Laden, got us out of Iraq, but took too long to deal with ISIS and seriously failed with Libya. Home front... Obamacare (good for me). Overcame a depression but saddled industry with regulations and delayed pipeline with short sighted views.

Reagan is about right... strong leader at home and abroad. 10th in most polls might be a bit under rated. I do blame him for setting the bar for the decades long budget issues.

I think Daddy Bush is WAY under rated... Top 20 for sure. Managed fall of USSR, smoked Sadaam and didn't create a vacuum. Home front? So he signed a tax increase? Gotta pay for something in DC.

Clinton had an economic tailwind and relative peace but was a scumbag. Should have bagged Bin Laden... way overrated but benefits from timing at 10-12.

''W'' (and I say this as a Republican) might have been the worst president in US history. Economic collapse, stupid invasion of Iraq, ballooned debt with tax cuts in a time of war... way, way, way over rated at 18-20. I rank him in the back with the poor pre and post Civil War presidents.

*In a side note, the historians agree that he'd have ranked 45th if he'd been white; being the first black president was his only trick.

I wonder a few decades down the road when his "signature" legislation has been dismantled how the rankings will look.
