Each day for the past three days (including today), when AVG 7.5 (not the freeware version) scans my system it finds a virus called "hijacker.small." The progam says that it cleans the virus from the system but at the next daily scan, there it is again. I tried a search on "hijacker.small" on this site but no matches were returned.

The other spyware/virus detection progams that are on my system are SpyBot, Windows Defender, and Zone Alarm Security Suite. Could there be some type of interaction between AVG and one of these programs?

    Thanks.

Sounds like you have a true virus but Norton shouldn't be installed with AVG.Uninstall Norton using this program

    http://majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_SymNRT_d4749.html

Restart the PC amake sure that Norton is uninstalled.

AVG Anti-Spyware will scan better than Windows Defender.Uninstall Windows Defender and install AVG Anti-Spyware

Since getting rid of Norton Security you'll want a better firewall than the Windows one.Installl PC Tools Firewall

    Lastly install Advanced Windows Care

    Keep AVG Anti-Virus 7.5,make sure it's updated.

I agree with the everything but the firewall and system cleaner.

I recommend Comodo or Kerio firewall and CCleaner for system cleaning.

The last updated version of Comodo Firewall really slowed down my PC.They did come out with a new version this morning but Ihaven't tried it.The last free version of Kerio firewall is pretty old and may not be up to date with some software.

    Thanks. I'll uninstall Widows Defender.

After the uninstall of WD, what I will have on the system is:
AVG 7.5 (full version has both anti-spyware and anti-virus),

    SpyBot, and

Zone Alarm Security Suite (consists of firewall, anti-spyware, and anti-virus).

Should both the AVG anti-spyware and the Zone Alarm anti-spyware be turned on?

I don't know where the reference to Norton came from unless Zone alarm is a form of Norton.

I misread the Zone Alarm as Norton Security.Don't run two anti virus program.Don't have two installed. The antispyware programs are alright. Is AVG antivirus or AVG AntiSpyware finding the infection.Sounds like something AVG AntiSpyware finds. You sound good on firewall but get rid of one antivirus program.Try Advanced Windows Care

    http://majorgeeks.com/Advanced_WindowsCare_v2_Personal_d4991.html

One good working but heavy(big) antispyware program is the Norton antispyware program that's in the Yahoo toolbar that comes with Ccleaner.I donn't like to leave the toolbar or the Norton Antispyware installed but a tough one it often works.

I run both Windows Defender and AVG antispyware.

I have Windows Defender set for automatic scheduled scans.

My free version of AVG Antispyware does not allow scheduled updates/scans, only manual.

Have you ran these programs in Safe Mode? This will likely solve your issue...

Press F8 repeatedly while booting. Boot into safe mode, run all scans, etc, reboot into normal mode.
