Today I was in my favorite burger joint. I was wearing my black Marine baseball cap. It has the Marine Seal on the front. The bill says The Few, The Proud.

This young guy, sloppy dressed with a scraggly goatee walked up to where I was sitting. he said softly, "Did you serve in the Marines"? I said yes I did. He said softly, "Thank you for your service", turned and walked away.

Maybe there is hope after all.

It is a difficult thing for us to not judge a book by it's cover.
What have you learned from this Grasshopper?

Attitudes have certainly changed since I was first in the military (Vietnam era). I have an AF Retired license plate and often get thanked by people who happen to notice it. Happens too when I show my ID card at Home Depot for the military discount.

What have I learned - Hmmm. Well I learned that if someone makes a comment about the way the youth have been acting some housemouse; with apparently little brains, and based on the joining date probably is a Socialist Housemouse, pops his/her head up like a mole, and spouts nothing.

I have a USMC plate and also get thanked. It has always been by some other prior Service person, or somebody mid age. To have a late teen, early twenty person do it was surprising.

From 1966 to 1991 the Military was treated horrible. With the One commanding, I imagine it will again get worse. Hope not.

It continued well into 1996 with Clinton's term, I know.

I thank all prior service members that came and went before I. The Marine Corps. is so far the most proud experience of my short 24 year life.
