OK, this has been bugging me for a while. Why does it seem like every other athlete is wearing a beanie, even inside? Has there been some research over the last couple of years that holding in that last little bit of body heat improves performance? Is it just to try to look cool? If so, how conformist is that?!

I wear one in the gym, but only to look like a tough guy.

Ok, I actually wear it to take the attention away from my chicken legs.

Not to mention its FREEZING at my gym at 5am, right when they open.

I've been wearing a beanie when it's the cold in the gym for 20+ years.

So it really is just to stay warm, eh? I guess the obvious escapes me sometimes, LOL.

Now THAT would attract attention away from bird legs.

    LOL!

It's bad enough when I do deadlifts.

I have some decent size and shape, shaved head, lots of tattoos, a serious demeanor, my black beanie, and..........snow white socks that go up to me knees to keep blood off the bar.

I look like a steroid abusing butch field hockey player!

It's pretty cool walking around in knee socks with blood seeping through. People don't know what they heck is going on. They think I took a digger going up the stairs.

Hmmm. Why shave 'em if one doesn't wanna show 'em off?!? That's part of my confusion.

well, I recently got an UnderArmor beanie, and I love it.

keeps me warm outside, even when its 15 below
and inside it doesn't make me sweat like a pig.

I keep my head clean shaven, so sometimes its chilly enough in the gym to merit keeping the hat on.

and underarmor beats a knit stocking cap, hands down!

Here in South Dakota, I work with a guy that wears a beanie inside all day in the warm weather months (until it's in the 70's outside). Just about everyone else will go without one, even shoveling the driveway when it's -3 outside. People are funny animals.

I never understood how people could be cold when working out. I myself have a very low body fat % and still feel the need to shave my head in the warmer months just to stay cool.
