    Hey all,

I have decided to try something new, and use my md-16xdvd9 for burning some dual layer DVDs. Up till this point all I have done is single layer, and it does great at 16X.

However, I have purchased some Memorex DVD9 dvd+r dl.

The drive only recognizes is at a cd. What am I doing wrong? I have updated to the latest drive firmware, no help. All I found so far says that it should be able to burn DL up to 2.4x.

Is there something I need to do to change things around so it sees DL?

    Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Hey ibontop, what do you mean by this? What are you doing when you come to the realization that the Memorex media is "being recognized as a CD"?

autorun tells me it is a cd.
nero says it is a cd, and states its size to be that of a cd,

both of them state correct options with single layer dvd-r and +r

Thanks for the link. I have read it and agree, I will try a small pack of ridata and see. If it is the memorex, that is a shame, as a 25 pk cost as much as a new dvdr drive.

I also appreciate the reply. Thanks and I will be sure to post if I was successful.

I find the dual layer DVD's are five times the price of single layer DVD's. They have twice the capacity but I can buy five times as many disks for the same price.

tried ritek as well, same thing. bought a new drive, a lite-on, and same thing.

MAN, I was getting frustrated. Blew out nero6 and put in nero 7 trial, and it works like a charm, on both media.

I wasnt aware that 6 couldnt handle DL.

Oh well, now I just gotta wait for a bargain on it, not gonna spend 74 bucks for it.
