My computer went crazy. I was trying to view a video on Arizona Shooting and the machine froze. I used Ctrl/Shift/ESC to end the task. When I tried to go back to Mozilla, I got a box talking about Default, which made no sense to me.

Numerous attempts to get back into Mozilla gave the same results.

I used System Restore with the date of 02-13-06. When I got back on line, I found that I'd lost all my Bookmarks and when I click on Bookmarks, in an attempt to rebuild the info, I don't even get a Quicksearch setting.

Can somebody tell me how to get my Bookmarks and Quicksearch websites back or are they lost for good.

Keep in mind that I'm a computer dummy and I do not speak computer-eaze. I can follow instructions, so if you tell me to click on this or click on this, I can do it, but when you start talking about msconfig or other computer terms, I get lost.

    Thanks,

    John

Ctrl+Alt+Del, find any running Mozilla programs and end them. Then re-open Mozilla.

    DeadMansLife,

I just tried that and there has been no change. I still don't have access to the old Bookmarks and I've got this new stuff on the toolbar at the bottom of the desktop:

    My Documents

    My Computer

    My Network Places

These were not there prior to the System Restore. I'm still able to navigate the net, I'd just like to find my old Bookmarks and Quicksearch.

the only way to retrieve you bookmarks would be to restore to a saved point after you made the bookmarks.

If you restored to the most recent restore point, I doubt you can get your bookmarks back.

as for the stuff on your takbar thing, right click the toolbar, go to "toolbars" and uncheck what you do not want.

    David_G17,

I was hoping you'd see this.

I'll try another restore point and see what that does. Thank you.

Once you get that restored you should try one of the extensions for firefox that automatically backs up your favorite list.

    David_G17,

I tried another system restore and used 02-07-06. After it was completed, I had gotten rid of the added info on the toolbar but I still have none of my old Bookmarks and there is no Quick search.

    Kastivich01,

I don't know anything about the extensions. I just use Mozilla/Firefox to browse.

    Kastivich01,

Thank you. I'll do some exploring in this "devil's device".

    Kastivich01,

I tried your suggestion but I can't even get this devil's device to start in Safe Mode. I entered the info in the box that came up when I clicked on "RUN" and when I hit OK, it took me to the Google page, which is where Mozilla/Firefox usually starts me off.

I've found most of my bookmarks but missing are the ones I seldom use or stored for future reference.

Do you have any further suggestions or should I just live with it?

    John

Im not sure but I think you may be out of luck at this point. Could it be that you used a restore point? Are the missing bookmarks the ones that you have done most recently?

You might try searching the rest of your harddrive for the bookmarks file.

BTW which version of FF are you using?

    Kastivich01,

I used two different restore points.

The missing Bookmarks are the ones I hardly ever use but wanted to save for future reference.

I think I'm using the original FF. I'm leery of upgrading because usually when I do an upgrade, I mess things up.

As far as searching for a Bookmarks file, I don't even know where to start. I'm a complete computer dummy. I use one of these devil's devices to read e-mail and visit gun sites. Most of my computer learning has come from this site. I know a lot more about guns, shooting, and reloading than I do about these
machines. Heck, I only type with about 2.5 fingers.

    Thanks for your help.

    John

To search for a file go to start > search > For files or folders > click all files and folders > type in bookmarks

I would upgrade to FF version 1.5. Most of the kinks seem to have been worked out by now. Link

    Kastivich01,

You are good! I found them all. Now that I know where they are I can at least find what I need when I want to do some reading.

    Thank you very much.

Next, I'll go to FF 1.5 and insatll it.

I owe you abeer, coke, coffee, whatever you say.

    Thanks again,

    John

No problem. It really sucks to lose all your bookmarks. If you found the files you should be able to get them back into your profile so they will display when you click on bookmark in FF. Follow the restore bookmark section in the previous posted link.

Dont forget to install the automatic backup extension.

    Kastivich01,

    Thanks again.

I installed FF 1.5 with no problem, backed up the Bookmarks, and everything is working fine.
