Here is her response to the email I sent her urging no knee jerk reactions on gun control:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the recent shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, as well as gun control policy and gun safety. I appreciate hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to respond.

On Friday, December 14, 2012, a gunman entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, and began shooting teachers and students before taking his own life. This horrific tragedy took the lives of 27 people, including 20 children seven years of age and younger. As a mother, I'm horrified and stunned by the senseless violence against innocent children and teachers.

This tragedy has led to renewed and important discussions about gun control, which is often a divisive topic in our nation. The loss of so many beautiful children in a mass shooting that involved an assault rifle with ammunition clips that held large numbers of bullets makes clear that we need to revisit the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 and review permissible magazine ammunition sizes. I am also supportive of closing the gun show loophole and making sure that those with court-determined, dangerous mental health diagnoses do not get access to guns. Finally, it is equally clear that we must reconsider the mental health services available to our citizens, knowing that each mass shooting our nation has experienced involved individuals with substantial mental health problems. "Obamacare" will expand important mental health coverage when it is implemented in 2014. Protecting our children and our citizens will require us to come together to find real solutions that cover a broad range of factors that have contributed to these horrific incidents.

I firmly believe that an attempt to promote appropriate gun safety measures can be done without infringing upon law-abiding citizens' right to own firearms or unduly burdening the hunting and sportsmanship culture of Missouri. Weapons designed primarily for the use of soldiers to kill people in war are not used in hunting and can be reasonably limited without jeopardizing any rights under the Second Amendment. I believe the horror of the Newtown shootings makes clear that we must get to work protecting our communities and our children from mass slaughter, while also protecting our Second Amendment rights. I am hopeful that the National Rifle Association, a significant voice in this discussion, will be a constructive part of this dialogue.

Even as I welcome this renewed debate, please know that I will continue to protect the Second Amendment Rights of law-abiding citizens to safely own and use appropriate firearms. In the past, I have voted to permit residents of the District of Columbia to own and purchase firearms. I also supported an amendment to a spending bill that would prevent funding for any international organization, including the United Nations, that places a tax on any firearm owned by a United States citizen. I have opposed other inappropriate measures, such as forcing Missouri to accept other states' firearms laws.

As your United States Senator, I will keep your thoughts in mind anytime Congress considers gun-related legislation. In the wake of the Newtown tragedy, my prayers are with the students and staff at Sandy Hook Elementary, and with their families. All Americans are outraged at senseless and criminal gun violence no matter where they may fall in the debate on guns in American society. A renewed national conversation has begun and we must all be a constructive and open-minded part of it. There is middle ground here, where this nation can come together with sensible laws that prevent the mass murder of innocent citizens, while we continue to respect our Constitution and its Second Amendment rights.

Again, thank you for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of further assistance to you on this or any other issue.

    Sincerely,

    Claire McCaskill
    United States Senator

P.S. If you would like more information about resources that can help Missourians, or what I am doing in the Senate on your behalf, please sign up for my email newsletter at http://mccaskill.senate.gov.

I have an idea of what I want to say, but any input you have is welcome.

Would it not have been easier to not re-elect McCaskill? Seriously, when will we understand that elections (or choosing not to participate) HAVE consequences?

There is NO middle ground! The Second Amendment is very clear. I expect any legislator to support all law abiding Americans. Those people on medication should not dictate laws for responsible firearm owners.
Thanks for taking the time to contact your legislator. Try to educate them.

Not with that idiot that ended up running against her.
There were 3 republicans going into the primaries. The worst one won.
    Argh.

Well, let's she if she gives me the same form answer.

In the past, she has given me the same kind of "glad to hear from you but I am going to do what I want, and I don't care what you voters think" answers, on TARP, Obamacare, and the stimulus package.

#1. Ask her to explain what modern firearm was not designed as a weapon of war? Remind her that bolt action rifles, lever action rifles, revolvers and pump shotguns were all state of the art military weapons.

#2. Remind her that the Batman shooter used a pump shotgun and ask why she doesn't think we should ban pump shotguns. (Call it a death spraying assault shotgun with a shoulder thing that goes up).

#3. Ask her how those insurance exchanges for Obamacare are coming....

#4. Ask her to define "large number" in reference to ammo. Ask her how she reached that definition. If its 10 rounds, ask her why not. 9? Why not 11?

#5. Ask her how many federal investigations there are into the 500 people shot in Chicago this year? Ask her why she's opposed to enforcing the laws on the books?

#6. Ask her if she believes David Gregory should be arrested. Ask her if congress still has jurisdiction over DC. Ask her why she wants to pass a new law if she refuses to enforce existing laws.

    Edited to add:

The next republican candidate for office that says anything about rape except "it is a horrific crime and its perpetrators must be hunted down and it's victims must be supported" should be beaten with a sock full of horse manure. If that idiot hadn't made his asinine comment McCaskill would be packing up her office as we speak.

she sounds like a DEM with no gun ownership experience...which is pretty typical of all
people who want to restrict guns.....The scary thing is listening to people who have zero gun experience talk about the way it should be

There is a reason that the NRA gave her a grade of "F"

Nothing you reply to her canned response to you will make a difference. She is a liberal Senator that has a horrible track record on 2nd amendment issues, among other issues.

She is a horrible Senator. She follows and swallows everything that King Obama puts out there.

She is not 2A friendly, although in her campaign this year, she portrayed herself as a 2A supporter, saying she grew up hunting etc and wants to protect your 2A rights.....yeah...right! :steamed:

She is NOT a 2A friendly individual....she is what-ever-the-liberal-democrats want Senator.

    Thanks Akin!!

It doesn't make any difference what you tell her. She is a puppet; you pull her string and she spews the same message her handlers have programed her to say. You can't argue with a programed idiot.

Funny thing is, Akin probably would have won that election if he had just had the sense to keep his mouth shut...

She is a Democrat, what did you expect?

You could tell her that taking guns and MAGAZINES away from law abiding people will not stop lunatics from getting weapons. All it does is disarm the law abiding. With mexican drug cartels making inroads into the united states, that is a bad idea.

If she will agree that all of the capital hill police will have to disarm, then apply and go through the same hoops as normal people to get CHL's, and only carry the same guns that the civilians do, That would help her from being a hypocrite.
