Wiley Clapp 9mm commander. Falls into budget, fits bill, nicely made gun.

Dan Wesson DWX Carry model will be out soon.......

Look fast and you may catch a new-in-box DW V-Bob, too.

Guardian is nice if you are wanting aluminum frame.

I bought a Ruger for my first M1911. A noted shooter said "start with a Ruger, and if you stick with it get a (fancy custom maker)".

It is a full size .45, but feels good and shoots better than anything else i have . except maybe the CZ SP01.

Buy what I bought to validate my purchase......

Just kidding. Look at the Kimber Super Carry Pro or derivatives. I carried one for several years. It has everything you want.

I only live a few miles from the shop that Helix Gunsmithing works out of. He has modified several 1911 frames for me and his work is top notch! Really nice and knowledgeable with a pretty fast turn around. Highly recommend!

image.jpg I have a Sig Fastback Carry that I am very impressed with. I never thought of a Sig 1911 but got one gifted to me a while back. The fit and finish is outstanding and it’s been 100% reliable. I never seen the inside of a 1911 finished so well also. The slide to barrel fit is great and so is the slide to frame yet it is so smooth when I hand cycle it. It feels like a 1911 that would cost double the price.
I’m not sure if they are all like mine but I couldn’t be happier.

Our SO issues series 80 Colts, every Colt I own has shot out of the box and I have high praise for their reliability in critical situations.

I bought a Dan Wesson Guardian in 38 Super, it's the most unreliable 1911, failure to feed in every magazine. It feels great, nice workmanship, accurate, but...

I have 5 other 38 Supers (3 Colts) that are very reliable...

Another overlooked brand is SIG, bought a carry model https://www.sigsauer.com/store/1911-fastback-emperor-scorpion-carry.html

that's held up very well and has passed the desert dirt test without any hiccups.

Lots of good, quality choices for end users who carry.
