Well, I am going to buy another Glock soon. I am stuck between a Gen 4 Glock 17 or a Glock 21SF.

I really want a Glock that has an ambi Mag release since unfortunately I am a southpaw. Both of these models fit my hands great and would make nice additions to the collection. Caliber is not an issue and I have lots of 9mm and 45acp laying around.

    What do you all think?

6 of 1 ...1/2 dozen of the other. Same difference.

Just me, but I'd rather buy a Gen 3 right now than a Gen 4. I like to let others find the bugs that need to be worked out

Doesn't really matter, since you'll probably wind up with both anyway.:devildance:

Both! If you're trying to make a choice, I'd go with the Gen4 17.

I was about to suggest the 17 and then decided to suggest that you weight out what YOU feel is best suited to YOUR needs. Then simply get what YOU like best.

They both may fit nice, but try shooting both, and then you'll know. Go with the 21sf, IMO. If you want a nine, seems like most people around here like the G19 the best...

Those are both on the opposite end of the spectrum on calibers. Why not go in the middle and get a G22 in .40 SW?

I love the .45 ACP, but I do not care for the 21 or the 21sf. I am neutral on the 9MM but I really like the Gen 4 17 I just got. I would go with the one that fits you best.

I am left handed as well and thought it was a big deal to have a left thumb mag release but I can actually reach it better with my pointer finger without having to move my hand. My .02 on that subject.

Get the 21SF. That's what I'm looking for now (at least to trade my 19). I could care less about the ambidextrous mag release though; I'm a lefty, but I'm used to it by now.

I believe the mag release can be reversed on the Gen 4 model 17.

Out of those two, I'd get the Model 17. Lighter recoil will keep you on target for faster follow up shots. More moderate and adjustable grip size will fit a wider range of hands. (Meaning it's more likely to fit you better.) The pistol itself is smaller and lighter than the 21.

The 9mm round is reasonably powerful self defense round with a bunch of choices with respect to ammunition.

It just seems to me that everything about it is easier and more reasonable.
