Based on suggestions from everyone here (thanks by the way) my new system will be based on the MSI 975X Platinum Power Up motherboard.

I'm going to put 2gb of ram in it so I would like some suggestions on what and where to buy it.

I don't feel the need for the high end stuff like Corsair, but would like something with a lifetime warranty and moderate speed.

Any good buys lurking out there anywhere?

Crucial, Corsair and Mushkin all have "value" lines, only marginally costlier than Kingston, PNY, etc. In the last year, I've bought 2GB each of Mushkin and Corsair for laptops from New Egg for <$200. I would imagine desktop RAM is less expensive than laptop RAM.

I stress test new RAM for at least 24 hours with Prime95 before putting it "into production" and the "value" RAM in both laptops performed flawlessly.

In all my builds I use G-SKILL or Crucial all purchased from NEWEGG. IMO they have the best prices & service.

I've had good luck with Transcend, again from newegg. I have two notebooks and a desktop running on 2gig each.

I have been using Crucial, they used to be Micron, for the past 11 years. They have never given me any troubles.  ;)

Crucial, Gskill, OCZ, and Corsair are all great choices. I would try and get the highest speed (that MB will support) with lowest timings with the best price. All should have a lifetime warranty. I usually check crucial.com, newegg, and zipzoomfly and compare. Good luck ;)

Thanks for the suggestions, I am learning a lot about memory by looking at the specs. It's been a while since I did any research on it.

I have used Kingston in my last couple of builds and it works great!

I put 1GB sticks of Value RAM in my wife's new build and I put Hyper X 1 GB sticks in my new machine.

I bought the RAM at NEWEGG.COM of course! Great RAM at a great price!

I have the Crucial Value Select ram in my new box. as soon as it hits $150 for two 1gb sticks of pc5300 I'm adding another two sticks.

then I'll have the 4gb RAM needed to make Vista not suck.
