My uncle collects WW2 era rifles amongst others, and has one he forgot what it is.

It says Budapest M.95 near the bolt, but at the end of the barrel it says Austria in tiny letters with other words that we can't read anymore. I think it says 8 after Austria so maybe its an 8mm? The bolt pulls straight back and forth without rotating. Any I to appreciated thanks.

Caliber is 8mm but not the same as 8mm Mauser (unless altered under Nazi control.)
It is 8x56R which is available

Why in the world would it be marked "Austria" and "Budapest" which is in Hungary?
Well, there was this outfit called the Austro-Hungarian Empire which was broken up into separate Austria and Hungary only after the end of WW I.
