The show opening had a guy in what I believe was a Pontiac Tempest convertible that had a movie camera rigged in the glovebox. He was driving on the 405 Freeway and the buildings in the background included The Capitol Records building.

He was some sort of private investighor...... and this image is burned into my memory from when I first saw it.

Anybody know what I'm asking about here? It'll have to be a boomer like me who can remember this show I think.

I'm sitting here enjoying old Peter Gunn episodes.
Next---> Patrick McGoohan in The Prisoner.

Wrong opening .... I remember that Richard Diamond Show .... but I think it's too far into the '60s.

I'm thinking right at the beginning cusp of that decade.

Thanks fo trying though. Besides ---> that appears to be an all Ford cars show.

    Don't remember that one.

However, here's an interesting mix of all the cars driven by Mike Connors' Mannix character throughout the series run. Starts with the Mercury convertibles, then the convertible (custom) Toronado, and then various convertibles throughout the Mopar years. The scenes are cut for the cars, but there's some extra scene footage spliced around the cars.

I'm not 100% sure of the Tempest ... but it sure looked like one.

I've wracked my brain trying to come up with another medium body convertible car. The Capitol Record building IS 100% though!

The camera in the glovebox was for the show? Or the private dick had a camera in his glovebox?

He used the movie camera in being a detective ....and I looked at "A Man With A Camera" or words to that effect. ......but that's not it either.

I've done several searches to include Pontiac Tempest, Capitol Records building, detective, etc. I've watched several YouTube videos of tv detective show opening themes, from different years based on the link I posted above. Nothing. This is a real head scratcher.

It doesn't seem to be a mainstream or hit type show. Maybe was only a season or 2. None of the big/popular ones show any scene like that.

Could it have been a wheelchair instead of a Tempest?
    Was it Ironside? :dunno:
