    Short and sweet,

Close family friends are attempting to adopt a little boy. He is 5 and has spent his entire life in state care. It is my understanding that he does not have a lot of things to call his own, and his wardrobe is quite limited.

At any rate, after almost a year of paperwork, and getting everything in order, he will be flying in to visit with them this weekend. If all goes well at the house, the final proceedings should come together in the next few months. But he will be returning back to where he lives for now.

I have to stop out today, and my wife wants to grab him a gift and introduce ourselves. I think she scooped him an outfit, and asked me if I had any ideas on a "toy" gift. Im sure a 5yo would rather have something to play with than a shirt and jeans.

    Suggestions??

They are cool, but take some skill to fly. My son is 14, and we have picked up a few of them in the past. Each time they last a few days and one good crash and they end up in the garbage. Good thought, but I dont think at 5 he is ready for it.

Wow! Good for the adoptive parents! I hope everything goes well. If the adoption goes through you'll have to make the kid a rifle.

Cut it out of wood on the band saw. Screw a PVC 'scope' on it and he's ready for duty!

Again - good luck to all! :wavey:

Can't go wrong with some Hot Wheels and maybe some G.I. Joes....maybe some kind of action figure. The helicopter has to be recharged and has to be flown inside....plus it is slightly difficult for a 5 year old in my opinion to master. Hopefully you will be able to get him one when he turns 8 years old!

I would wait on buying toy guns until he is out of the state system completely. A Tonka toy maybe:supergrin:

You just gave me a great idea, I don't know if I can track one down, but I'm going to start calling around and see if I can find one of those rubberband rifle"s you see at craft shows. We have a few craft toy stores locally..

    Thanks:wavey:

Still open to suggestions in case I cant find one

For a 5 year old boy you'd be safe with toy trucks, cars, action figures or dinosaurs. I'm sure anything along those lines he would be happy. Like Okie mentioned I'd wait on the toy guns until your friends have the adoption is complete.

I can see how a gun may not be the best idea, plus he will be taking it back with him to where he lives now. I am unsure of his living arrangements currently, but in conversation I am under he impression that there are multiple kids there. I really wanted to find something that he could call his own.

Get a little backpack and have his name stitched on it (call that his own definitely) and buy about $20 worth of Hot Wheels. I had about 30-40 when I was his age and I thought that many Hot Wheels was actually about 1,000 !!!

I remember each and every Tonka Truck I ever received.

First was dump truck, then an excavator, then a back hoe and finally a crane with a drag line attachment.

My almost 5 year old really loves his duplo sized lego blocks. If you happen to know a favorite color, a medium size toy car or truck would likely be recieved well. Thomas the train is also age appropriate and has some small play sets.

A really really nice teddy bear, unless the folks have got him one already. Less chance of it getting broke or swiped by another kid.

Congrats to your friend!! My best friend's parents have adopted about ten kids...and fostered over 200. When I hear about an adopting, it really means something to me. :)
