    Hello everyone.

Been lurking around for a few weeks, finally decided to register. I have been looking into getting a Glock for a few years now. Shot a few different models at the shooting ranges and finally decided on the Glock 22.

Went down to my local shop and started the process of getting one. Of course being in California though there is the 10 day waiting period but oh well. I get to pick up my new baby on Jan 12. Bought it for recreational purposes at the range and for home protection.

New to Glocks in a way but not new to shooting or firearms. I currently own, besides the Glock, a Remington .22 rifle and a Savage Arms Over and Under 12g circa 1976 that I use for skeet. I have been shooting guns since a young age with my father and grandfather.

Looking forward to spending time here and learning more about the Glocks. Currently the only plans I have for it aside from going to the range the weekend after I pick it up is possible getting a light for the rail, no sure which one yet and maybe doing a bit of barrel polishing. Not really planing on doing anything internal to it.

So that is that. Now I guess I could search but while I got everyones attention what is the most recommended .40 S&W round to fire through the glocks? I was thinking of picking up some blazer or whatever is available at the range when I go.

Pics to come once I pick it up.

Welcome to GT from a fellow Californian!
I understand your concern - there's a lot of info out there about loads and everyone has their preference.
I have a Glock 27 and after a little research I decided on Winchester 165gr FMJ for practice and 155gr Gold Dot JHP for home protection (with light/laser combo) - works for me.
As I recall there was a web site that rated the loads re: penetration etc.; I'm sure someone will provide the link. Failing that, just Google ".40 S&W" and I'm sure you'll get a lot of hits. I think there is also a separate GT chatroom re: loads - if so, check there too.
Of course, many here will say shot placement is more important than load, but with ten .40 JHP rounds I figure I'll get close enough to make an impression on the BG.

Any factory new ammo from a major manufacturer that is not unjacketed lead. Blazer Brass works fine, I personally prefer American Eagle and PMC Bronze. Any grain will work, I usually get 165 or 180 only because 155 is like $5 more a box and all I want is target ammo. For self defense I go with 155, 165, or 180 in the types that I like.

Congrats and welcome, you won't be disappointed.

Howdy from Texas and welcome to GT. my G22 eats anything, including Fiochi and Wolf aluminum. i usually use the Federal brass or WWB, whichever I can get cheaper.

for HD mine shoots better (or maybe I shoot better) with the 180 grain. i use either Winchester Ranger T or Federal HST. get a box of everything and see what shoots best. thats half the fun of your new Glock!

Sweet thanks for the info guys. I'm not sure what the grain rating is but when I hit the range I'll buy a few boxes of differnt loads and for my own opinion I guess. Happy glocking everyone!

    Welcome friend. :wavey:

As far as rounds go, buy the cheapest thing you can find, usually Blazer or WWB @ Wally World. Shoot the crap out of it, practice practice practice. For self defense ammo don't skimp out. The price should not be taken into consideration in this department. Any of the top manufacturers will work. Gold Dot is good, I like Golden Sabre and have started to become partial to Critical Defense. Federal makes a good product too.
