Been stuck in CA on a business trip for a couple days, so I've been watching the Hellboy movies in the evenings to kill time, They're actually fairly entertaining. Not what I expected at all.

Check out the animated ones. Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, and what's his name do the voices of HB, Liz, and Abe. They are actually pretty good, too.

I agree, great movies and the two animated movies mesh seamlessly with the live action entries.

The visual effects in the films was particularly impressive, I thought. As big a comic and mythology geek that I am, I've never really gotten into Hellboy's comics -- but I still enjoy the films.

Those of you with Netflix, you can get the animated ones for free, streaming, from 'em. They're worth a watch.

The Hellboy comics are SUPERB. Very sparse, harsh art style, but the awesome blend of real world mythology with the hellboy mythos is endlessly entertaining. They are very non-linear though, you can read them in almost any order as they hop all over the place in Helboy's life.

The B.P.R.D. spin-off is much more linear, more like the movies, really. Though Hellboy drops out fairly early on, the rest of the crew is entertaining enough.

It is unfortunate that a live-action Hellboy is so damned expensive. It would make for a great "Fringe" style TV show, he much more often fights things like a little demon stealing kids shoes than saving the world :)
