Totally did not expect this in the net; not fun. Leatherman to barb made it safer to get him outta the net.

I expect a full report on taste and texture, as well as a wine recommendation.

Bait ball? $110 cast net? I cast netted for bait in Texas. What is it you were doing? I'm not familiar with it.

    They make excellent tasting "scallops".

Ended up overboard while pulling pulls. I think I stuck that one in a bit too well. I am sure the beers didn't help much, either.

Like fake scallops (if done properly).

I shoulda sliced his wings...I know. However, my focus was on shrimps. Next time...next time.

Sad to say, but I can't go a day with a rod and not at least catch a dozen, plus. Those I release unharmed (unless they engulf my high-dollar leader).

If rays take over your bottom fishing site, move on to another.

    They are a nuisance.

And yes, some people skin them and use a sharp round cookie cutter to make fake scallops but the texture and taste are different if you are familiar with sea scallops.

Yankees would be easily tricked onto thinking they were "bay scallops". :)

So the "bait ball" is put in the water to attract the shrimp, then you net them? Dang, I never did that. It sounds awesome. What size net?
