I heard about this documentary recently, and I'm glad I found it on YouTube. Definitely worth the 1 hour and 24 minutes if you can spare it:

Watch it while you can. I don't know if YouTube will keep it up.

Lots of great memories from my wrestling childhood. I really wish he was still with us today.

A note of interest: he was the first person ever inducted into the WWF/WWE Wrestling Hall Of Fame. And considering he wrestled for 27 years in 5,000 matches and on 6 continents.....I'd say that's well deserved.

And for the record: there should be "Andre The Giant Memorial Drinking Festivals". :drink::drunk::animlol:

Shamelessly stolen from Reddit... This supposedly happened during the production of The Princess Bride.

"Wrestler André the Giant, who played Fezzik in the movie, "let out a 16 second fart and brought production to a standstill." "It could be heard three counties away," Elwes said with a laugh. "Nobody said anything except Rob, who said 'Are you OK, André?' and André replied, 'I am now boss.'"

I watched it on HBO yesterday. really good. he had a fasinating life.

there is a whole scene in the doc that talks about Andre' s love of flatulence.

I saw that. It was utterly hilarious. Especially Hogan's description of it.

I assume that was during the filming of Conan? I gotta see that movie again. I haven't seen it since I was a child.

He also played a little basketball.

And was a famous "sloot slayer" apparently (said he had slept with something around 20K women - though I doubt much sleeping was involved).

I was reminded of an interview I saw from wrestler Paul White ("The Big Show") that he did, one of two interviews he gave with Conan O'Brien in 2005 or so, where he talked about how difficult it is to travel around the country to different shows; both by plane and from renting a car. He told a story once about how he had to use the laboratory on a plane:

And he's probably a bit smaller than Andre. I can't even imagine how bad it was with Andre.

Do you think it would have been possible for any other WWF wrestler to beat him in an unscripted match? I vote no.

Big John Studd probably would have had the best chance. But beyond that.....no.

I actually have to agree with Stu Gotts from the Dan Lebatard show. The only thing I learned from it was the flatulence chapter. I did enjoy it though. I always enjoy the stories. My favorite has to be the one where he and a friend are in a bar in France. Andre just wanted a bit of peace and quiet but, a bunch of drunks wouldn't leave him alone. After a while, an angered Andre chased them from the bar and they piled into a small vehicle to make their getaway. So, Andre grabs the car and rolls it over before they can get it going. His friend then suggests they make an exit while the drunks are left to explain to the police that they are in an upside car because an angry giant flipped it over. Like Hogan said, it's one of those things that you could tell someone about him and they would believe it, regardless of truth. I am a bit saddened that I was only old enough to see him wrestle at the end of his career after the heel turn. He was so much more than that.

Whenever the wife and I visit her family in Ellerbe, we drive right past his old house. The ranch property has since been broken up so the house has it's own unmarked driveway in the woods with a very plain gate on it (at least it did). If you don't know where to look, it's easy to miss.

Watched a few YouTube clips where they interviewed wrestlers and talked about Andre. Even the big guys said there wasn't anything you could do with him. He was just too powerful. I've read that he separated macho man's shoulder once, by squeezing it in his gigantic mitts. Macho man may have had a bum shoulder, but that is still insane. Andre also had twice again as many teething his head as a normal human. I guess it was just molars all the way back.

On a side note, The Big Show had the same disease as Andre, but had surgery on his pituitary gland when he was 14 to halt the progress. I don't think that was an option for Andre back in the day.
