Watching Hard core on Nat Geo. Why do we put up with any BS from convicts? Maybe some CO's can weigh in here.

Not a big Nat Geo fan but this is reality TV gone totally stupid.

Don't get any of this behavior tolerated.

    We can't support this anymore.

Losers on both sides and we pay for this?

    Educate me. Please.

Not that I think this is anything new...but no responses?

    We are all being fleeced.

Does anyone watch programs like this?

It might help if you pointed out a specific problem you have instead of announcing how you feel about a broad and ambiguous subject.

Good point. However if you watch the program...can you seriously ask the question?

Short answer...the courts have neutered the ability of prisons and jails to control inmate behavior and the public won't pay for the level of staffing and training needed.

I have had the program on as background noise for a while tonight.

I still dont understand what you are seeking other than to vent on a very broad subject and have people agree with you.

Do you just want someone to say "Yeah, jail sucks and the system sucks"

Ok. "Jail sucks and the system sucks."

That doesnt help me to understand what you really have a problem with.

Federal CO here. I don't get Nat Geo, so I can't watch the program; care to point out any specifics? I'll be glad to comment as much as I can.

Specifically, we have let this system denigrate to allowing inmates to call the shots. Seriously, you don't see the flaws?

Okay, I will conversely ask you...you don't see a problem with our current system?

Again, man, SPECIFICS. What SPECIFIC issues are you seeing? HOW are they "calling the shots"? I assure you they do NOT call the shots in my agency.

OK, just found it. The show is called Hard Time and in the first 30 seconds I'm watching the inmate is talking about his first homosexual encounter...

    :wow:

    So no thanks.

What system is that? It is all a perversion. Why do we allow any of this abhorrent behavior? Not looking to put people out of work...but this show gives a perspective that is what is wrong with this country today.

I work in the federal system. Other than the homosexual encounters, what incidents are going on?

As to those, unfortunately, we can't keep an eye on all of the inmates all of the time; at least not how my facility is constructed (1920s design for a drug rehab, turned in to a prison in the 70s). We do our best, but stuff happens. That's why we make our rounds and do shakedowns. No, they're not locked down all the time (outside of the segregation unit); they're out among the housing unit, or their work assignment.

So, is that the problem? Federal? I respect you. I have been around dangerous animals, because I hunt. I see these inmates as the same thing.

    Stay safe!

Are there problems? Yes. Is it any one specific problem? Nope, lots more than one. Partially the courts with how they specify things have to be done, partially politicians that cater to the more whiney families of those incarcerated, partly the media's perception of this environment, and a lot more than that.

Think you are going to be a lot more than a CO. Best!
