    First - THANKS VETERANS!

Your sacrifice has given all of us the rights we ***** and fight over.

I’m looking forward to a family bonfire, shooting the G44 with kids, and pulling more bass out of our pond with the kids. Landed 16 last night.

Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend!

Memorial day isn't happy. It's supposed to be a day of remembrance for the fallen.

Please don't say "Happy" in the same sentence. Thank you

I'll sheepishly remind folks that today isn't Veteran's Day, it is Memorial Day.

I appreciate and I'm thankful to ALL veterans everyday. Today I honor those that have given the ultimate sacrifice.

Got a great uncle and great grandfather (different sides of family) who both served in WWI. Both took their own life within a decade of returning home. Not sure if it’s an appropriate discussion, but would it be a stretch to say Memorial Day is a good day to honor them? Both died in the Argonnne Forest, just didn’t know it yet.

    Freedom Is Not Free

I watched the flag pass by one day.
    It fluttered in the breeze.
    A young Marine saluted it,
and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
    Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
    How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
    How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
    No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of TAPS one night,
    When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
    And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
    That TAPS had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
    Of fathers, sons and husbands
    With interrupted lives.
    I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
    Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
    No, freedom isn't free.

OP - Sorry about the chastising you got; I understand what you were trying to say and the sentiment is much appreciated. My part was minor and didn't involve a combat zone, but there are plenty here on this forum who have faced incoming rounds and returned fire. THEY are the ones who deserve our thoughts, along with prayers for those who died in defense of us.

Try to remember them by name and try to imagine the sheer misery that so many of our armed forces (men and women) have endured. I've done enough reading to know that personal fortitude is what carried most of them through those moments and they fought more for their comrades than for the ideal of American democracy.

If you really love America and it’s liberty and freedoms that past generations have fought and gave their lives to defend, vote Trump and Republican in November, to ensure that they did not die in vain. Wether you realize it or not, we are truly blessed by God to live in America.
