The plastic strikers are good shooters but lately I've gravitated back to the hammer pistols, especially of steel or alloy manufacture.
Latest example is a CZ75B which I just acquired. It's an excellent shooter and replaced my Glock 17 as my favorite handgun.
    What say you?

Hammer by far for me as well. I shoot mostly DA/SA now though. Frame material doesn't matter to me.

As long as the feel and break point of the trigger are consistent I'll take a striker action for what I think are it's advantages over a hammer gun.
I mean I surprise myself with how well I can shoot with the stock Glock trigger. Don't need the glass rod trigger of a hammer gun to shoot accurately, I found out.

For defensive use and action shooting I'll take a striker. If I'm trying to shoot tiny groups I'll take an SAO hammer gun.

My answer might change in the context of use as I own examples of each. But for general ccw and defense, give me striker fired polymer.

    I have and shoot both.

My hammer fired tend to be SIGs with mental frames which run heaver for carrying but great for the range.

Most carry guns either IWB or OWB are plastic striker fired shooters for the lighter weight. Both seem to get their respective jobs done quite well.

I only have 3 semi auto pistols, all striker fired. One thing I really like about hammer fired guns is the totally obvious/can't mistake the fact that they're in a mode to fire. Striker fired guns are far less obvious. Don

I have both and like them both but if I could have only one pistol it would be a Glock 19.

I like striker pistols, but I tend to shoot hammer pistols better.
The M&P and Walther PPQ being exceptions.

I think it is a question of what intended use.

For defensive pistols, I prefer the Glock striker.

Same trigger pull each time. No manual safety. Gun is only partially pre-cocked, to be safe for carry, yet does not have heavy trigger. Very firm tactile reset with the trigger. Trigger pull needs to move the striker plunger/block up and out of the way to fire. Dingus blade on trigger needs to be depressed for trigger to move, so ensures drop safe, and also means the trigger only moves with direct pressure to the front center of it.

Depends, but for CCW I don't want to mess with a manual safety. At the same time, I don't want an accidental discharge. Those two prerequisites lead me to striker fired. A trigger safety as well leaves me feeling pretty comfortable as EDC.

Hammer. Generally much better trigger, faster second strike capability. Lots of flavors: DAO, SA, DA/SA. HK and CZ you can carry cocked and locked or DA first shot capability depending on your preference.

If it goes BANG reliably, chances are I like it. I own Glocks, but I love my SIGs. DA/SA IS, IMO, just as safe. My only hammer SAO is a good ol' BHP, which is one of my al, time favorites. If I could only have one, the BHP would be it.

No favorite. Matters little to me, in the scheme of things.
