A Tulsa man returns home from a fishing trip to find numerous guns and large amount of cash missing.

The homeowner returned to his home on the 5100 block of East 27th Place to find his 500 pound safe missing.

Inside the safe were 22 pistols, rifles and shotguns along with $200,000 in cash

The money, which belonged to a close friend, was partly inherited and was to provide for the families retirement years.

The burglary took place while the homeowner was away on an out-of-state fishing trip between March 3 and March 12th.

Detectives on the case are hoping that a citizen will call Crime Stoppers at 596-COPS with any information that they have in reference to this burglary.

Inside job. Large sum of cash that was not his. Conveniently out of town.

"Out of state fishing trip" at least get a believable alibi, like I was at Perkins hitting on waitresses or something.

Probably because he bragged about inheriting 200 grand and how he doesnt trust the banks and keeps it in his safe.

I find it pretty easy to feel sorry for someone losing any amount of money but, particularly easy when it's a sum that large.

Also, locked in a 500 pound safe isn't exactly just "laying around." The story tells nothing about the state of the safe or the precautions taken to secure it.

It's also entirely possible that they knew he was going to be away and just went to rob thew place when they stumbled upon the safe. Given the opportunity and time they could have just defeated all of the security he had installed.

I will admit, it's a little suspicious at first blush but, let's not jump to any conclusions just yet. So far, the cops don't even have enough suspicion to name the homeowner as a person of interest.

OT: Read a story a few years ago where the burglars backed a tow truck up to a guy's house, broke in through a door, snaked the cable inside and around the safe, then winched the whole thing out and took off.

Tore the absolute crap out of the house, but the perps were only at the scene for a few minutes.

If somebody wants your stuff bad enough, they'll get it.

Coffee cans with GPS coordinates still the best way to hide it.

Make sure it's well-sealed. As kids, my friends and I liked to bury "treasure" in our yards. A friend buried some paper currency in a coffee can. When we dug it up some time later, bugs had gotten in and eaten most of it.

All they need to do to catch the perps is scout out the local strip joints and see who is throwing money around like the sky is falling
