If it actually opens up like that and not just marketing ploy, then I wouldn't want hit by the damn thing.

That being said, some really good 45 ACP open in the .80's and some in the .90's.

Ok, I actually read the ballistic report they linked too. It is not that impressive at all. Most decent 45 ACP rounds preform better than that.

And are much easier to find, not to mention cheaper. But there is something to being able to say, "Yeah this is my Glock 50." or "Yeah, this is my 1911 in .50 cal."

Till you come across someone that knows the ballistics, or has seen those dismal terminal ballistics. Then the person you show it too will think you have a very expensive conversion (or whole gun) that shoots very expensive bullets...that is beat by average 45 ACP rounds.

That where I'm a bit confused. GCI seems to be very happy with its ballistics. I can't see them going through all the trouble of producing this new defensive round if it was inferior to the avg .45acp. The 4.5" wound vol is great. I'm just not sure about the 9" of penetration. Maybe the increase wound vol makes up for that. :dunno:

    No man.

    No 50GI for me. I don't buy 1911s unless they're 45ACP.

It does seem like a cool round though.
