gun trade question???

1032 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  NC Bullseye
Ok, I have a Sig 226 that I am going to be traiding for a Mini 14 with some other things. He says that he is a retired LEO and has a COPY of a pistol permit and will have his drivers licence. Now would it be legal for me to trade the pistol for the rifle if he has a copy of the permit, or do I need the actual permit? I just dont want to be walking into some kind of set up.

Thanks for looking.

Oh and I live in NC

See a real CHP or get a real purchase permit. Your butt is the one on the line. Better safe than sorry.

If he's offering a copy of a Pistol Purchase Permit? No. Pistol Purchase Permits are surrendered upon purchase to the seller.

Is he offering a copy of his Concealed Handgun Permit?

If so, it's good to keep a copy of (and nice that he's bringing one), but you need to physically view the original, and verify that the copy and the original match, front and back, and verify that the name and address on the CHP match the name and address on his State-issued picture ID (e.g. driver's license) (and the picture matches the face of the buyer). You don't strictly need to keep a copy of the CHP, but you need to keep the numbers off of it forever, so a photocopy is a good idea.
thanks for looking guys
Do retired LEOs have the same carry permit as the rest of us??

If not LEOSA then yes, they take the same CHP class and get the same permit. Under LEOSA I don't know but the firearms sales laws are pretty clear that only a purchase permit or NC CHP is valid for a purchase so as a CYA I'd stick with that.
