There is a gun show today less than a mile away from me (Columbus, GA) and I'm trying to decide whether to go.

Living overseas for the past few years I've been a bit out of the gun culture loop.

I figure <$10 will get me in and since I have no plans to BUY or SELL anything, perhaps I can enjoy looking.

Being a Sunday I suppose everyone will pack up early, right?
Is there much cooler stuff out there compared to 5 years ago?
Am I going to be looking at stacks of ammo and few weapons?

    Should I go?

Not in your area, so YMMV but ours have improved a little bit in the past few years. A little less flea market trash and a few more guns. Nothing like 20 years ago for interesting old guns, but better than, say, 5 years ago.

Yeah, that's what I thought, didn't want to stare at beef jerky.

Seeing as no parking fees and I'll likely be headed abroad again soon, I figure I should check it out.

Do you really need this kind of advice...or did you have an urge to start a thread?

I was there yesterday. Pretty much like all other gun shows. Not as large as you would find in a larger city, like say, Atlanta; but enough guns on display to be interesting. A few of the tables had Gen 4 Glocks...most didn't. Lot's of knives if that is your thing. Oh yeah, beef jerky was also available.

If you're not going to buy or sell anything, why bother?

If you have the time, go. Tell you whether or not to go back again.

I have found some of the best bargains at times when I didn't need anything and wasn't going to go but did. $350 M1 Carbines and such, you never know.

Of course I've gone and not found anything I was looking for.

In any case, if it's a decent show, it's worth the admission price to look around.

+1...same here. I've found some terrific deals when I wasn't shopping...and the BBQ pulled-pork always makes a nice lunch.

    I went.

    Learned that:

Ruger began making self-defense pistols finally.

Hi-Point has some competition from Cobra and Phoenix.

9MM seems to have hit a low in popularity

Gun shows are good for fondling guns and accessories you see on the internet or TV, but haven't yet committed to ordering through your local dealer or online. The prices are usually set high enough to discourage the educated buyer and screw the uneducated buyer. I've found very few deals at the gun shows, and a great many insults.

I'd go if it's only a few minutes away...The one we had here a few months ago was lame but it was fun to get out and see what people were buying.

I like going to gun shows, but there are no more "good deals" and I have been disappointed from the last few.

Where at? If I go, it's the Eastman gun show in Savannah, but that's because I'm not interested in driving more than 1 hour to attend a gun show.
