Where do you get yours at? I'm makin a chicken gumbo next weekend and I'm missing some and need to get a order in quick. If I knew how to make it, I would tray to make a batch up via scratch.
I usually use Spice Hunter or Zatarains which is available at the local supermarket. It is made from the ground dried leaves of the sassafrass tree or sassafras albidum -- the roots and bark of which are known carcinogens.
I have gotten it at local grocery stores or at superwalmarts.. p.s. don't foget that sausage.. The chicken will be all lonley without it
That's where I got mine at before. BUT all of the my local walmarts don't have at. NOT sure, but it was zatarains ( i think ).
I'm in file' land, so no problem finding it here. You might try a Super Target that has groceries. They tend to stock a lot of ethnic foods. Or buy it online at Zatarain's at this site for $1.80.
Good luck, my friend! On my last (and first) time making gumbo I searched all over this damn city and couldn't find it. Tried all the biggies Winn Dixie, Publix, and even places like Milam's etc. Never found it so I had to do without. If you do locate some let me know where so I can try doing some gumbo again! ;c
thanks for the encouragement, but we did change plans that let me off the hook, for cooking up chicken gumbo. Took a trip out to Alligator Alley ( the bar and not the road ) in Oakland Park. They make some of the best gumbo that you can get and New Times have rated then number for bar foods. trust me when I saytheir food is outstanding.
You got off easy ;f! Thanks for the suggestion, I'm gonna have to check it out. I am always in the mood for some good gumbo.
