What I really don't get is the break in the chain of logic. If A, then B. If B, then C. The only possible path, no dispute about any of the links, no alternate paths out there, or even proposed.

And they're agreeing to A and B, totally. But C is wrong because....well, I really don't get their reasoning that C is wrong.
