Anybody got any idea? It's up against the stemwall. The hole is very clear cut, you can see down into it about 3 or 4 inches. I live in the south central U.S.

Looks like a @FullClip pet squirrel mound.

Fire ants. They sting and itch. Stir the mound and see what poors out.
If fire ants - orthene, or other fire snt killer. I like orthene because it doesn't have to be watered in after application.

I'm going with some sort of ant. I get the same mounds in my yard from fire ants. But lighter red color dirt from the Carolina red clay.

Thanks everyone for contributing. Some thoughts...

If you look to the left of the mound there is a large open hole. You can see down in it. Ants generally don't leave a big open hole. And you see them coming and going. There's never any ants around it. Looked up pocket gogher. Not completely ruling it out yet, but after looking it up this hole and mount seem far too small. Maybe a baby pocket gogher newly out of the nest?

    Some gopher or vole type.

Skewer traps or douse with hose and wait with shovel where it pops up...

I hate those things. They bite your legs and leave little welts that you have to squeeze the pus out of, and then you still have a red mark. Not good in my line of work. Thank goodness for waterproof leg makeup.

The thought of putting the wording GT and Braintrust in the same sentence almost stopped me right there.

And there's a pile of dirt next to a dollar bill.

Agreed on the ants but that hole is plenty big to be a gopher. We had a cat that would wait a long time to get them.

I have some long-term pigmentation dots on my lower legs from fire ants.
Waterproof leg makeup is a thing? Hooda thunked it?
Are you a foot/leg model? Just me being you!
