Forgive my simple questions. I joined GSSF and have not received my materials yet.

    What choices/limitations do I have for sights? I'm shooting a model 17, and maybe a 34. I

    Thanks

You can use any "post and notch" type sights (night sights, Heinie sights, etc.)

You can also use fiber optic sights.

you can also use red dots and other optics, it all depends on the class. checking out the rules for the class(es) you shoot would be better than asking here.

I have been using Bo-Mars for awhile and I really like them. My front sight has been narrowed several times, I think it is down to .090" wide now. I had to do this to allow a place for the fuzz to fade out to so I could still see some light on either side... Aging eyes are a real *****. Recently I purchased a set of Dawson sights that I really like also. I have them on my G30 & 34.

How narrow are the narrow front sights? Here's what I'm dealing with:

My eyes are 40+ years old. I wear bifocals some of the time. My right eye is my dominant eye. However, the vision in my right eye is on the blurry side. Left eye sees pretty well but it's not the correct eye for lining up a shot. I keep both eyes open when shooting but the front sight is just a bit on the fuzzy side. I've tried Big Dot Sights but they block out the 10 ring at any great distance. I'm open to suggestions.

    Thanks

My 62 year old nearsighted eyes prefer AmeriGlo's new Combat sights available at www.ameriglo.com

Front is a .125 but the rear notch is very wide, allowing for a great sight picture.

Dawson Target sights with the .090 front sight. Did not like the Bomar sights hanging off the rear of the gun.

Matt, what's the front and rear notch widths on the various Warren Tactical sights you carry? Skinny front sights don't work for me but a wide rear notch might.

How well does mixing and matching sights work? For example, will Heine or Warren rear sights work with the front sight of True Glo TFOs? I like the TFOs but I'm having a heck of a time getting my eyes to focus on the front sight. They keep gravitating toward the rear and it really slows down target acquisition. This is a problem with my eyes, not so much with technique. Seems to me solid black rear sights might help. I know I can buy the Heine/Dawson combo but already have some TFOs. Just a thought.

mixing sights works fine, as long as they're made to be mixed. like my dawson fronts are made for a heinie rear. as long as you can keep the front sight height the same or very near the same as the front sight that should be used with your rear it'd work fine.

Mixing works if the heights are the same. AFAIK TFO sights dont have the right height to work with Heinie/Warren rears.
