Watched a few Heavy Metal class shooters a recent match (Fulton, NY) and I'm curious about the ammunition used by the M21 & M30 shooters.

Factory ball loads? Factory semi-wads? I'm guessing most used their own handloads. Anyone care to share their GSSF .45ACP recipes?

PS: Some factory loads I've chronographed at 190-194 power factor, don't think I saw any of those.

SWC's will not function in a G30. I'd guess that a popular recipe is a 200-gr fmj over the minimum charge of Titegroup.

    I use 4.5 Titegroup with a Montana Gold 230 at 1.250 OAL.

It's hard to beat Montana Gold for quality, price and service. I use their 200-gr fmj for my GAP loads, 180-gr fmj for my 40's and their 147-gr fmj for my 9's.

I use a 200 gr molly LSWC with 4.0 of clays loaded to 1.250. As has been mentioned it will not feed in a G30, but works great in a 21. Just got a thousand 200 gr molly RN, and will work up 3.8 and 4.0 of clays to try in the 30, but want a load that will work well with each gun. So we'll see

I only shoot my G30 in GSSF and leave the 21 at home, keeping the different gun models shot to a minimum. If I shoot HM, I shoot the G30. My load doesn't make major Power Factor, nor does it have to in GSSF. A nice soft load still maintaining accuracy would be the goal.

    My load is:
    5.0 Gr VV N320 behind
    230 gr MG CMJ
    1.259 OAL for
660 fps producing a PF of
    151.8

5.9 grs. 231 with a Nosler 185 gr. JHP or a Ranier 185. 750 fps from a G30, about 139pf. Just changed the spring out and the pistol will cycle these. I also like 200's and they may be a good compromise between the 185 and 230 offering a quicker snap like the 185 to get you back on target while giving a softer push like the 230's.

Is changing the spring legal for GSSF? I could load lighter but the gun won't work.

    For both the 21sf and 30sf I use 4.2 Bullseye, 200gr X-treme bullet, Federal primer, 1.200 col.

Is it made by or has been made by Glock then it is legal. If not then no. But is legal in Unlimited catagory only.

Let me elaborate: The Glock armorer changed the spring at South Dakota with a Glock original spring. I was getting an occasional stove pipe jam. The pistol had over 6000 rounds through it by my hand and I purchased it used.

Changing the spring I was worried that my load would no longer work and bumped it up a couple tenths but it didn't seem to matter and it functioned well. Going lighter they will eject back into your face which makes it really tough to shoot straight. I was loading so light that they were actually ejecting to the left, figure that one out. I kept going up a couple tenths until they mostly eject away from me.

Bryan, I'm not mad at you either. You brought up a valid point that needed to be clarified.

My 9mils, shooting strong-hand only (not GSSF) with the pistol at a '45' will eject left. Otherwise, the brass pretty much falls at my feet - great for brass recovery (uh, not GSSF).

Wear big loose rubber boots and you won't even have to pick up your brass. Just dump them out when you are done.

With great tips like that, it's no wonder that folks would like you to stick around here. Thanks Bryan!:thumbsup:

I train my brass. All I have to do is step to the line and shoot, the brass just jumps back into my range bag. :tongueout::embarassed::faint:

Is this caliber commonly used at Glock matches in the Heavy Metal and/or Amateur Civ? I'm considering buying an M-37, but match-level reloading info is extremely hard to come by.

In my opinion it is a great choice. Reloading for it is easy and you can build some really great "Bunny Fart Loads". It is my favorite. I load the 200gr Xtreme FP Bullet over 4.2gr. of Tite Group and OAL of 1.068.
