Neither have been released yet...
And it almost always depends on the model number and what you are doing with it. It has been a long time since I ran an AMD but when I did I was happy with them. Wife has one and it seems fine.

The last laptop I bought from Best Buy was so plagued with Best Buy and Geek Squad advertisements and limitations that it never worked correctly. I am pretty convinced that it was corrupted from the start so that they would hope that you would return it for service work. I'm for sure not a computer guru but I for sure will never buy a computer from Best Buy again.

I can tell the difference in speed between a 10th Gen i5 and 10th i7 laptop. Where I see the difference is mostly Solidworks.

But, across all computers, the 20H2 windows update really helped.. the previous update really screwed with things.
Got that right. Work bought me a Dell Precision 7540 laptop to make Solidworks less of a pain to use. Xeon E-2276M processor, 32 GB RAM, NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000 graphics card. It is an engineering workstation, not a gaming rig. Pretty decent bit of horsepower. I recall it was around $3500 last year.

Main thing is it has Solidworks signed graphics drivers. Don't ask me to explain what makes them special cause I don't know.

I look for last yrs “must haves”. Of course I ran windows 98 till 2012 iirc. Don’t watch a lot of porn. It reduces trouble. ;).
So not useful info for G30...

I was sad the day I could no longer run Win98. I had good luck with it.

I constantly watch for deals on solid lower end laptops and this is one of the best I have seen. The only downside to it is it appear to have only 1 RAM slot with 4G soldered down for a 20G max. There is a similar spec'd HP coming from Wal-Mart for BlackFriday which appears to have 2 RAM slots which is the only reason I did not buy 2.

How is this compared to the ASUS lower on the same Best Buy link for $599?
All I've ever had is non gaming desktops, and my current one is 10 or so years old with Windows 7.
I doubt I'll game much as I always game on a console, but I'm wanting to try a gaming PC of some kind.

This one?:

I was looking at that myself. Looks like processor is exactly the same speed. GPU is slightly better and it has more memory capacity and an extra SSD slot. If you gave it 32G of RAM and another 1TB SSD it would work okay for most games.

Yes, that one.
Just wondering if I spend more money, or go back to a desktop.
Never had a laptop, and was mainly considering one for space savings.

From some reason laptops are cheaper than desktops. All my computers are laptops for that reason. I use them 99% of the time at a desk plugged into a 4k TV. WalMart has a 42" 4k coming for $128 black Friday. They also have a 32" curved monitor for $155.

I hope to retire in a few years, been in IT since 1995 ish. Hope to never pop the cover on a computer, log into a router or switch, or wake up early ever again.

An ipad will do everything I need to do. Pay bills online, pull up the google machine, order **** off amazon, and pull up a page full of titties once in a while.
I was wondering about this. I’m getting a new IPad next year and was wondering if I even need another laptop.

I have a question. Can a brand new printer be set up from either an IPad or IPhone? At one time you needed a computer to do that. If that’s no longer necessary, I probably won’t get another computer.

I have a color Canon laser printer that was ~$200 I really like and my daughter prints to it from her ipad. It can be setup from its own screen, connects to the network or you print to it directly. I have been very happy with it.

Looks like that one was $420 has gone to $650 now

Any other good deals out there?
Yeah, I saw that. I was really thinking of ordering another.

WalMart has some great Black Friday deals coming. They have a similar HP for $460 but it is supposed to take more RAM and SSD. I intend to get one.

Also, great deals on 4k Roku TVs.

Thanks! I may just retire mine. It’s just a backup and the only computer game I really enjoy is solitaire. A nice old geezers game.
