Good Lord! I've always wanted to see that rifle and caliber fired. I wish there had been a bigger fireball though.

Is it built as a target gun? Or is it intended to be used as a hunting rifle? Or was it built as hand held artillery???

It was built to be the biggest and baddest, just for fun really

There is however a rifle in development that is significantly more powerful than the .950JDJ. Its a custom 14.9mm rifle that produces around 42,000-45,000 ft.lbs of energy depending on the load. The goal is 5000+ meter shooting

Testing of the prototype is due to begin around May/June of this year.

Here are some pictures of the rifle components to give you an idea of what its like.

    The action

The barrel next to a 20mm Vulcan for scale. Its 48" long right now and weighs about 70lbs.

    The projectile it will fire

There is also a suppressor for it thats about 2' long and 3" in diameter, but no pics of that yet

This thing is going to be a monster

I guess it's for hunting. Never know when you have to stop a charging Peterbuilt.

Just a few more stats on the 14.9mm for you

Free recoil is in the region of 220 ft.lbs (30-06 is about 20 ft.lbs) and the recoil velocity is around 21fps

Gas pressure at the muzzle is in the region of 16,000-22,000 psi

A little info on the cartridge, COAL is 6.5"-7.25" depending on the projectile used. The 1690gr projectile is expected to clock in around 3350-3600 fps. The 1020gr projectile should hit 4000+ fps

Please keep in mind these are just estimates from General Dynamics

And for those wondering, yes there will be a video of the testing
