I have been shooting glock matches for 5 years. Overall I find the matches fun. But I do admit I shoot with the hopes of winning a new gun or two. Well I finally made Master Class. The only problem is I did it buy shooting the BEST match in my life in Jackson NJ. I was VERY proud of my finnish and was happy to make Master class buy winning the 3 events I entered as an amature. Glock sent me one gun and refunded my entry fees in the other 2 shoots and passed the guns down the line. I know that once your a Master shooter you can only win one gun per match and I am fine with that, I also understand why they did it. I am wondering if anyone else thinks it is fair to sign up someone as an amature and after he does well in one shoot to move him to Master in the middle of the match while the scores are all ready posted. Taking away the two other guns that he has won that day and refunding his enter fee? I will say that in the past 5years of shooting I was lucky enough to win 2 other guns. I know after winning 3 your a master but is it fair to do it in the middle of scoreing the shoot. I am bitter over this because they took my best match EVER and devalued it, and they took away the free guns that I would need to be a master. I feel I was robed and I am asking this on a public form because there is MUCH more experiance here. So please tell me what you think. I feel Glock made a lot of bad blood buy taking 2 guns away. Thanks !;l

Congrats for for making it to the deep end of the pool. You appearantly have a good stock gun since you won 3 "A" Clas events. Why not take the 3rd certificate that bumped you to master and get the gun you feel you need to be a Master Class Shooter. I don't know of a Master GSSF Match shooter that needs 3 guns to shoot in master class. You are very fortunate, I know many who would really feel great just being bumped to the Master Class.

GSSF's rule has always been that you may only win three A-1 pistols, and the rule has been strictly enforced during the past three seasons.

Now that you are a master, be aware of the "Share the wealth" rule--A master may only win one pistol per match even though he or she may enter and win two categories that award a pistol.

To expand your logic, would it be fair for a 2-time winner to enter and win six categories at a match, thereby winning 8 pistols before being bumped to master?

I had a similar experience last season - shot pretty well in the Topton, PA match and was informed after the fact that I was now a master class shooter. got DNF'd in the amature classes and my guns went to someone else. As least they refunded my money. I got even - practiced a lot and used my refund certificate to enter the Richmond match last month. Finished 2nd in master stock and open and won a gun.

Get a model 17 with your win in NJ, build it into a master stock gun and get some more wins. With the times you posted in NJ you will be competitive.

    Good luck.

Yes it sucks but its not a new rule and it is nowhere near as bad as using a lewis class system in Master divisions as they have at conyers.

a lot of people wish they had your problems!

i'm trying to win a gun too. but i think i'm more interested in just winning, rather than winning a gun. after all, i've spent (and i bet you have too) enough money on practice, ammo, hotels, gas, entry fees, etc. to buy 3 or 4 new glocks.

    nice shooting!

As a total amateur-newcomer & someone who is attracted to GSSF because of the (seemingly) less stressful atmosphere, the (so-far) very nice people & more equitable award distribution guess I have a different view. I certainly hope someday, after alot of practice & hard work, to have the burden of being able to win "only" 1 pistol per match. The idea that a Master could come in & smoke several divisions, collecting the pistols for each when I might only be able to make 1, maybe 2 matches per year, would frankly put my GSSF membership into the trash can. (I note that at Jersey 47 shooters in AmGuardian were made into 3 classes - pretty good in my book.)

And when I say 'smoke' I mean that in the best sense because, JMC, I believe you when you say you shot the best of your life. +6 sec in Competition!? Talk about 'being the bullet'! ^c
(I'm curious if your AmCiv gun is your Comp gun.) I think that's some great shooting - just can't generate any crocodile tears. Hope to meet someday when my schedule permits me to really dive in. :)

Masters can only shoot Master Stock and Unlimited to win pistol certificates. You can shoot AmCiv or AmGuardian, Subcompact, Competition, Master Stock and Unlimited and possibly win a pistol certificate. There will be no Masters coming in and robbing you of your wins in the amatuer classes. The complete rules are available at www.gssfonline.com

Thanks to everyone that responded. I needed some good honesty and you all gave it to me. For those who asked I shot a G19 In am civ. I shot my G17L in comp, and I borrowed a G26 to shoot sub Comp. I put in for a 34 for my new stock gun in master stock and My 17L is an old model that doesn't have an accessory rail. VERY early gun Ser# BD258 If I ever win another gun I will get another 34 and scope it so I could shoot both Master class stages. All My guns are stock and unworked except for a drop in 3.5# sear. Thanks again for your thoghts. J.Michael-Latest GSSF Life member. ;?

J Michael - just wanted to let you know that 34s aren't allowed in Master Stock. No long slides, just full size and smaller. Get a 17 & come play! Congrats on your promotion. Tony.
