Finally picked up my 642 today. It's a no-lock J-Frame. I friggin love the grip and feel of the gun. It's perfect. The size and angle is just right for me. Now I need some moonclips or some other better device than the HKS speedloaders don't like the grip.

I want a cheap pocket holster and maybe a cheap IWB holster. I still need a holster for that 13-1, which I also love.

These 2 guns are exactly what I need and like.

Best of the pocket guns. The Uncle Mikes size 0 neoprene cheapies work good for the pocket, though they aren't purpose made for it. Otherwise, get the Nemesis or Superfly.
My 442 has the older Spegel profiled UM rubber grips, which work fine with the HKS speedloader.

I doubt that moonclips exist for the 642.

If you dislike speedloaders, try speed strips from Bianchi and Tuffy.

Sandpaper works on the grip, to make room for the speedloader.

If you are hung up on looks, then maybe not. But it works, and after a few hundred days of carry you won't notice it among all the other wear and scratches :)

Great little gun. Been carrying mine since I got it about 7 months ago.

The stock grips don't lend themselves well to speedloaders.

However, if you like grips made of G10 check out the options from VZ. Got a checkered set in Black Cherry for my 642 and they were worth every penny. They look great, feel great and have a more than generous relief on the left panel to accommodate a HKS speedloader.

They're pricey, but worth it. Like them on Facebook if you have an account and you can usually get a coupon code that will knock a tad off the price. Beyond that, leave it as is and just shoot it, carry it, and enjoy. Great little wheelgun.

They have some for the pro series J frames, came out about a year ago. The OP's won't take them.

I carried two Bianchi speed strips that held six rounds of .357 or 38 special. I figured I may as well carry 6 in each even though my model 637 only had a 5 shot cylinder. Loved the gun but didn't shoot it very well at all. Love the 642, nice choice.

The standard in a pocket wheelgun in the no-lock. 24/7 protection!

The very best pocket holster for a J-frame is the Mika pocket holster. I even use mine with my Colt DS.

The 642 is a great pocket pistol. It will go bang when you need it which to me is more important than having a few more rounds. Apex also makes trigger parts to make 642 easier to shoot well.

I'm using DeSantis Clip Grips on my 642 and I really love em'. They're basically the same size as the stock rubber grips but in a plastic resin so they don't stick to stuff like rubber does and you can carry IWB without the need for a holster. They're also more speedloader friendly. I really think you should give em' a try. Congrats on the 642, they're really great EDC/CCW guns, I don't go anywhere without mine.

The gun will also be easier to shoot if you polish up the rebound slide and DA sears on the hammer and install a Wolff 13# rebound slide spring and 8# hammer spring. You'd be surprised at the smooth and dare I say light trigger pull you get with this combination.
