Been looking at Dutch Shepherds and Belgian Malinois, found a couple local breeders of both, so I started saving up some money for a pup. One of the local guys had a 10 month old that is a sister to a pup a friend got. I was all set to get her in a month or two. After work one night I popped on Craigslist and searched one last time not expecting anything, because who really puts a Mal on Craigslist? Well lucky me, a lady near my work had one that she rescued from a terrible situation. He was about 20-25 pounds at 16 months. She saved him and and nursed him back to health. She had a female GSD that did not like him after a month so he had to go. I paid her what she paid for him to get him out the bad home.

He goes to "boot camp" next week, although he knows a few commands already. His "sit" "down" "no" and "drop" is strong. "Recall" and "stay" need the most work so I am letting a pro train him. He is full of energy and focus. This image really sums him up, except he has an "off" switch for now.

This is Han, the day I brought him home. He's still underweight, but I'm working on it.

Here Han is after a few days in my home, totally content. He has bonded to all of us, me the most and my oldest daughter comes in second.

And learning new tricks (climbing play sets)

Congrats. Glad you got him before some CL scum got him. I've rescued pure bred dogs from people dumping them on CL just so they wouldn't end up in another crappy home.

Beautiful pup you got there. You got lucky when you found him.

I know. He is still timid meeting new people, but has never shown aggression.
    Thanks

Beautiful animal! Good on ya for adopting Han.

If you have the time, I highly recommend you work with a trainer and train the animal yourself, as your bond will be stronger and the results better.

I would never allow another person to train my anmal, but that is just my opinion.

Here is to a lifetime of happiness to your pack

Main reason I am having someone else train him is just for the recall and stay mostly. After this "bootcamp" session we'll work together. I have another friend that trained dogs (even Malinois) for years, but she doesn't have time until Spring, and she recommended him as the only person she would ever trust to train her dogs. Once she's free, I plan to work with her and Han. I haven't had a new dog in 16 years, so I am a little rusty, but I understand where you are coming from.

This summer be sure and take a picture of him in the neighbors pool. He'll be over that fence and in the pool in no time.

They moved out last year, so it won't be full but we have a pool that I plan on letting him in.

Cool! We buy the plastic kiddie pool every year for the dogs. Our GSD loves to play in the pool.

He's #3 in the house, my other two dogs are 16 and 18, put up with him, and he ignores them. I couldn't ask for a better dog. He has a sensitive stomach and I think I'll be experimenting with foods for a while to see what he digests best. Right now he is eating Taste of the Wild - Bison with a little Purina Kibble mixed in (probably 5:1 ratio).

My plan is for him to travel a lot with me this spring and summer to softball games. If I'm home/around, he focuses on me. Ignores every other dog on walks or next door.

He's a good looking guy, but I think he's too big for your doggie door.
