Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well!

Just thought this was quite interesting and was curious to see if anyone else has run into these while out and about anywhere.

I was walking around this city outside of Rota, Spain when this car came out of the corner with these huge rockin cameras on! :wow: Never saw it before, but as it came closer, it became clear that of course it belonged to Google.

So here's the deal, what the hell is the point, how much do you think Google is spending to do this all over the world, and more importantly, how much is that driver getting paid!

It does come in VERY handy while shopping for houses....
It really helps keep real estate agents honest with their listings.

Last year my son and a friend were playing in the yard, and came in and told us there was a van driving down the road taking pictures. Yeah, right.

Fast forward, now my son and his friend are on the Google street view of our house. . . .

I'm pushing a lawnmower in the picture of my house. A white Google van drove down my street about 3 or 4 years ago.

Well, now you'll be forever seen on Street View taking a picture of something.

I saw one of their vehicles on the highway in West Palm a couple months ago.

Check that location every now and then until the photos update and see if you're on it.

Here's a link to a site where there are pictures of your house from a street level view and you can look around at other houses. They don't have all addresses yet, but they are working on it.

We were outside working in the yard the 1st time they drove by (N-S direction) and I noticed the camera but never really payed that much attention to it.
The next year we were again working outside when they drove by (E-W) but never saw the car.
You have to really look to see us. Just a quick once over and you'll miss us.

A while back I was working for a GPS company being sent to areas where there are holes. Basically, is this a one way street, when can you make a U-turn, just what is there, etc.

Was making $12 an hour, but also working about 60 to 80 hours a week. Stay in nice hotels and $40 per diem. I imagine the Google people are making about that too.

As for why, only thing I can think of is they get some money selling street view to certain companies and/or possibly increased ad revenue.

    This.

Before I went to any house while I was shopping, I checked out the neighborhood. Google streetview was one of the ways I did it. Incredibly useful.
