I’m not really supporting the NBA this season. But they are doing things right. In the *bubble* they are tested regularly and so far, no positive Covid tests.

And the vast majority if not all NFL players went straight from college - to pro.

My son’s youth hockey league’s parents voted overwhelmingly to go on with the season as planned.

Ncaa is becoming a joke anyway. None of the best players stay more than two or three years.

Inevitably at some point usu the first game there will be kneelers
Saves me a 1/2 hour of my life before I would turn off the first game

Also Covid waivers would probably be nullified in courts.

College football is pretty mich a farm team system for pro ball but its not like there is a lot of pro spots for water polo, swimming, xross country, etc. And those athletes know it so they actually go to class.

No argument there, and that's only because sports like water polo, swimming, cross country, etc. don't generate billions of dollars in revenue annually. Unless such an athlete was trully exceptional, which is rare, they too will receive revenue in the form of endorsements like the "big guys" do from the giant sports equipment manufacturers, and also from doing TV commercials for coveted automobile manufacturers, etc.

Top 100 highest paid athlete endorsers of 2019...

The fundamental problem the NCAA faces is that they have one set of rules for everyone, when in reality there are two different worlds of college sports:
    1) Sports played by actual students for the sake of sport, and
    2) Sports played as a business by aspiring professional athletes who enroll as students to be eligible to play.

The solution would be for the minority of schools with profitable teams to spin off those programs into independent, professional minor leagues where the players would be employees, not students, and the universities would get a cut of the profits in exchange for licensing their brands to the teams.

The status quo is corrupting schools and the NCAA as everything else must be subverted to keep the money flowing.

On Fox News the other day the LSU coach said his team is ready to play.

If my Dawgs cancel their season I may have to call the suicide hotline.

Screw em. My kids pay a fee to the school to support athletics. So my son who is an engineering student pays extra money so some idiot can get a free education just because he can throw a ball. Then the school broadcasts the games and makes money on it. Not to mention the profits from merchandise they sell.

In most colleges and universities, the "big money" sports of football and men's basketball bring in the money that funds all the other sports at that college or university. It's just the way it is.

My son is in mechanical engineering at a big time SEC school. Not any football players in his classes.

One could argue that there are no mechanical engineers on the field.

I matriculated from Purdue in 1966 with a BSEE and never saw a scholarship athlete in any classes, technical or non. Bob Griese, however, was a Management major so that was close.

Overall, NCAA football players have lower GPAs than the total school populations but that isn’t the whole story.

Yes, we have Rhodes scholars and medical doctors and state Supreme Court justices among the top level players.

Over all, only about 2% of major college players ever make it to the NFL. A lot of the other 98% do get a valuable education that they pay for through physical punishment and injury. But I guess a lot of them end up in jail too.

The current NCAA model for Div 1 football and basketball is doomed, no doubt about that. Players are simply not going to accept a few schools making mega millions of dollars via the labor of athletes who can’t get paid.

Well, apparently Trump is in favor of playing. He retweeted Trevor Lawrence's tweet with the #wewanttoplay hashtag. Unfortunately I can't embed a tweet here for some reason.

Clemson has had one or two start in engineering (probably more than that). At least one transferred out. In his case it wasn't intelligence, it was the time demands that being a D1 football player puts on them. Of course, that opens into another discussion.
