Read a couple Taurus threads and thought I'd throw this out. 1991 and walked into a local sporting goods store that was going out of business. Spotted this stainless Taurus 85 and thought it would be perfect to teach the wife to shoot. I think it was reduced to $159 plus tax. I was right, the wife loved it and shot it very well.
Over the years it's shot a lot of rounds by a lot of people. It's still tight and the timing perfect. It's been a good gun and the only Taurus I've ever bought.

While some folks around here would say "good Taurus" is an oxymoron, each gun, regardless of the manufacturer, has to be evaluated on its own merits. Keep enjoying your Taurus 85.

I own a lot of good Taurus gun's, a Legendary Perfection gun that was shot a couple million times with 947 different types of ammunition, it's a TX22. (Caution: Don't turn the magazine upside down and shake!)

Good for you OP... I bought an 85 Ultra Lite (not stainless with the nubby spur hammer), NIB in 2008... I’ve shot the daylights out of it, never had one problem, and it’s still a tight little revolver...Maybe just lucky, I don’t know...I have enough confidence in it that I carry it often...Goes boom every time...

Hating Taurus is a social contagion like planking and the ice bucket challenge. Most of those afflicted have never been anywhere near a Taurus. But repeating what everyone else says make them part of the collective, and that feels good. To them, anyway.

    Maybe so

Maybe many of us just had bad experiences with them...

Or, once upon a time, we didn't know as much, and now know better, because of the experience.....

Sounds like you got a good deal. Nice to have something you can count on. Even nicer when it is on sale. :D

Much better luck with Taurus than Ruger, still love the ones I have from both. You buy enough guns, you'll encounter turds from almost any brand.

I have no issues with any of my revolvers.

I have a few more Taurus than Ruger because I prefer the trigger.

I shoot all of these, and my Taurus Revolvers keep going.
