Went into a shop I normally don’t frequent today. Saw a pre manual safety model JM stamped Marlin 336.

Took a look at it and would guess it was a safe queen. The stock and the bluing was pristine. I asked where it came from and the clerk said a guy Pawned it for cash and never picked it up, followed by the statement, “I don’t have much in it”

I offered him $300 cash because that’s what was in my pocket, and he took it.

I will have to get a picture loaded when I got the chance. It really is pristine. Not even any handling marks except for a couple minor dings in the stock.

Total impulse buy. I estimate it’s about a 1976 manufacture but not sure.

I think I did pretty good.

Excellent purchase! Great price too. That it's pre-safety and in sweet shape is even better.

I’ve been looking for years for a nice one. I have passed on dozens because of the rough shape from neglect.

The only issue with this one, and I noticed just it just a moment ago is it appears to have a scope mount screw broken off in one of the receiver threads.

I’ll have to get some penetrating oil and an EZ out at the hardware store tomorrow and see if I can get it out.

Worst case, a gun like that would be good for a decent set of peeps.

Take first two digits of the serial number, subtract from 100, and you have the year of manufacture. If first two digits are 24 and subtract 100-24= 76 you would have a 1976 model.

Congrats, this era represents the golden age of Marlin.

Be careful taking that broken screw out.

It's REALLY easy to eff it up. Take your time.

I have heard about using a small dot of JB weld to "weld" an Allen wrench to the broken screw and just turn it out to remove it. Think about that before you go drilling into the screw.

Those tiny screws are WAY harder to remove with an EZ out than a larger bolt is. There's just not enough steel to work with .

Good luck, you found a nice rifle for a great price.

Very nice indeed. Had the same problem with a Remington 660. Local gunsmith took out 2 screws, charged me 10 bucks.

You were both happy. You got a Marlin for $300 bucks. The Pawn Broker made $225 bucks. Life is good.:kidding::kidding:
