We had to put our dog, Dee Dee to sleep today. She was a 17 year old Bichon Frise that we got when she was seven. She was a retired breeder and her owner was going to put her down. We got to enjoy her for nine years. Her sweet character made me smile just to look at her. She loved her adopted family. She used to sleep with her head on my pillow and lick my forehead until we went to sleep.

At the end, she was blind and disoriented. Everything frightened her and her life was a constant panic. She slept all day and walked the house all night crying. We couldn't stand to see her suffer any more.

I have a big he-man German Shepherd, but Dee Dee was daddy's "baby dog". She died in my arms and is buried on our farm.

Peace and sweet dreams, Dee Dee.

You gave her a better life than she had. Take comfort in the fact that she knew she was loved even til the end. You did the right thing in letting her go.

I am so, so sorry for your loss. I have two eight year old Bichons. I dread the day I have to deal with what you are dealing with now.

    Rest in peace Dee Dee.

Thanks for all of the kind thoughts and condolences from GT members. I have needed lifting up in several areas of my life recently and some good people always seem to care enough to find a way to provide that lift. - Lee

I'm so glad that you were able to save Dee Dee from being put down when she was no longer needed as a breeder. What a horrible thing to do.

But thanks to you, Dee Dee had many happy years of love and companionship.

It is so very hard when they go, but without you, she would have been gone long, long ago.

The most important thing is all of the great times you shared, together.
