Other than the Sears Tower (or whatever it's name might be now), anything in particular I should (or rather try to) do or see? This would most likely be at night since I'm at an orientation during the day.

    You into music?

You should drop by Buddy Guy's, just to say you did.

You should drop by Kingston Mines for some great music!

If you like stuffed pizza, check out Gino's East in downtown, and/or Numero Uno. Another favorite of mine is Giordano's, they are a small chain. Gino's is the famous joint that lets you tag up the place with markers. The museums are really cool too. Lots to do downtown.

Go to a really smoky place and listen to some gritty Chicago blues.

Get some deep dish Chicago style pizza from Gino's East or Pizzeria Uno. Also, try an italian beef sandwich. They are awesome!

Food: Portillo's, Giordano's, Maggiano's (chain, but good), Fogo De Chao, did I mention Portillo's?

Sites: Sears Tower (is it still called that?), John Hancock Bldg, Water Tower Plc, Museums, Aquarium, Planetarium, Frye's Electronics

Kinda cold to be walking around downtown, but there are enough places to keep ya busy for the better part of a day just wandering around.

Oh, and btw, forget the Glock... they don't take kindly to ccw unless you know the mayor.

Oh, if it helps, I'll be staying and working near the Sear's tower...from what I've been told the building I'm going to orientation in is across the street from it. Which I guess is downtown.

And yeah, it's a big joke how they're sending us there when it's at it's "best" weatherwise.

These 2 of my favorite features have already been mentioned- as you may guess, I like to eat. :eat:

When I went there, I went on a boat tour which went up the river a bit (downtown) then went out on the lake after it got dark so we could see the downtown buildings reflected on the water. It was great. I also went to the Field Museum, took the "Blues Brothers" tour along Lower Wacker Drive to the Cook County assesor's building, went up in the Sears Tower, and got drunk on Navy Pier.

    Not bad for a weekend!

The Aquarium, the Art Institute, the Field Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry, the Lincoln Park Zoo... there is quite a bit to do in the city. And a whole lot of good restaurants.

If you have nightlife in mind, go to Division and Rush Streets.

If you go up to the observation floor of the Sears Tower take some binoculars. If the weather is clear you can see a lots of Chicago from there. It's 1320 feet above street level.

    Check out Wrigley Field.

The auto show is starting the 12th I believe. If you are into cars it is a blast. You can book an architectural tour that will take you to all the famous historic buildings. Navy pier is cool but it's more a summer place. Also as mentioned above FOOD hot dogs beef and pizza. Also China town is always a good time. I don't recommend Boy's town so much.

Not "downtown"....it's in the "Loop". Officially, it's the Willis Tower but no one calls it that ("what-you-talkin'-about-Willis-Tower). Visit the Skydeck and the "ledge".

Except for the politicians and winter weather, Chicago is great. Museums, music, food, the lake.....

If you don't want to sound like a tourist, check out a "neighborhood" map to get the areas straight.
