Which light would the folks at glocktalk reccomend and why? I'm getting a 3rd gen G17 tommorrow, and I'm considering a tac light for it, but don't know which light I ought to put on it. What are the pros and cons of each.

I love glock 2nd to NONE, but their lights ABSOLUTELY SUUUUUUUCK !!!

the streamlight M3 is FAR better, more rugged, better built, slimmer design, far better in every way.

bless glock, but their lights STINK like rotton fish.

Recommend you pass on both, and get either a Surefire X200, or Streamlight TLR-1. See previous threads for discussion on why.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll definitely look into both of these. But what makes the TLR-1 better than the M3?

My first hand experiences with 15+/- M3s:

    overall lack of shock resistance
    bulb fragility
    lens quality
reflector flaw (burns) in light use
    overall beam quality
spontaneous inop and intermittent op in units on recoil
    locking bar spring breakage
spot-adjustment is at end of threads, units fire downrange
    stated lifespan of 2500 rounds
    costly spares

    These experiences echoed by colleagues.

I ran a sample TLR-1 hard during a two-month eval, and it was substantially better in all regards.

The X200 was never a problem, but I find the switch annoying.

Please, share your first-hand experiences with the M3 unit. Citing specifics such as context of use, number of units, amount of live-fire, and what systems they were deployed on is especially helpful.

I do not see any reason to get an M3 or M3X over a TLR-1. The TLR 1 and M3 are about the same price--you can find either online for around $100. I have heard of many problems with M3's failing due to recoil. This is supposedly fixed with the M3X, but that is about $50 more expensive than the TLR-1.

Thats a rather un-educated statement being that the TLR-1 costs the same as an M3.

oh im sorry, less then the M3.

Get the TLR-1. Its far better then the M3. Do a search, there are several threads about it.

I owned a M-3 and had problems with the contacts getting dirty from firing. Had numerous failures during night shoots. I reccomend not even considering it as its outdated and costly. I now carry a TLR-1 and have been very pleased. Its sealed so there should be no contact issues.Quality is much better. I got it from botach for less then 100 bucks with shipping (with no problems)The LED light is very bright. It has a nice outer ring of light that illuminates a room pretty well. Mine is mouted to a G-22.

I recently (about 2 months ago) switched from the M3 to the TLR-1. I work late watch and have used it numerous times searching houses, apartments etc. looking for fugitives etc.
Hands down, far superior in any and every way.

I converted my G23 to a G32 in 357 Sig and tested the Glock Tactical light mounted on the rail with standard range ammo.

After the first shot the light disengaged and on the second follow up shot it fell off the pistol.

357 Sig must do something with the added recoil/impulse. The same light does fine on a G35 with aftermarket Jarvis 357 Sig barrel. Each platform seems to have some amount of variance with changes in load or cartidge. Always good to test for reliabiltiy. This is a bothersome issue.

    Pass on the Glock Lights.

Oh Great! I just won an auction for a Glock light for $75.00. Hmmm. I'll get a bad review for not buying it, but I think I will pass. I've never had a problem with my M3 on my G35, G19, Beretta Vertec, and Kimber. But I like the idea of having an extra one just in case I end up damaging my current M3. Thanks for the warning.

I had an M3 on a Beretta Vertec last year - It was so tight to pull on and off that it messed up the finish on the gun after taking it off just 3 times.

I now have a Glocklight on a G34 - I prefer the controls - the light slides on and off much easier. Matches the gun as well. I like the Glocklight better than the M3.

In fact, I may eventually get another Glocklight - one w/ a laser...

For the record, I believe the M3 is tight on the Vertec because the Beretta rails are technically Picatinny spec and NOT Glock rails for which the M series lights are designed.

They will work but the fit will be tight as you have found and eventually it will be too loose to fit back on a Glock after long wear on the Picatinny rails.

I have put about 200 rds through my 32 with a glock light no issues at all, the tlr-1 is much more shock proof but I hate the way it mounts to the gun with that screw and you roll it on instead of sliding it like the glock or the m3, the m3 has a crap switch in my exp. and are $$$ to replace. Overall I'd go with the tlr-1 because its l.e.d.= longer life and will run longer on batteries.

You should get one with the laser, for low-light level encounters.
