    Are there two of them?

I saw today and have heard on this forum about both slick and shiny and rough and dull,

is this a Generation thing, or can you simply get one or the other?

Rough finish on top, slick on bottom.

The rough finish is the finish Glocks first came with. Then for a while Glocks came with the slick finish. Glocks now come with the rough finish again. If you're looking for a slick finish Glock, every Glock I've seen with a three-letter serial number prefix starting in "G" has had the slick finish.

The rough finish seems grippier, and more porous so it absorbs oil somewhat easily. The slick finish seems, well, slick and shiny and less porous.

A lot of people prefer the rough dull finish because it's grippier. I have a Glock with each type of finish and I personally prefer the slick finish.

^^The barrels also have different finishes. The black finish has been on Glock barrels for the longest time, but Glocks now come with a grey finish on the barrel which seems to be more durable.

Supposedly Glock went back to the rough dull finish and grey barrel finish to reduce glare coming from the pistol.

+1 on the new barrel finish. I have about 4,000 rounds through my G22 and it's barely showing smilies... Barely...
